Green, Grey, & White: The Perfect Color Scheme

Well, as many of you probably know I am a big fan of the color grey!  I have tons of clothes that are grey, my office is painted grey, and I LOVE making wedding cakes with grey on them.  This wedding was such a dream to do…not only was I blessed with a fabulously nice couple, but they also were smart enough to hire on Courtney, from Joyful Weddings & Events, Amy Squires & Co for photography, and & Kristin from The Treasured Petal.  All three ladies did a gorgeous job with this wedding and Ynes & Ryan were simply beautiful together!  Here are the details from their special day!  Thanks to Amy & Lane for the wonderful photos!

Of course I had to take some detail photos of the cake too, so here they are.  We made a magnolia sugar flower for the top tier and accented the cake with ribbons, fondant lace, and pearl accents.  This was actually one of my largest cakes to date…once it was on the table it was definitely taller than me!

Christmas Time

First of all thank you SO much for your sweet comments about my little niece Kimberly.  I appreciate your kind words more than you know.  Praise the Lord Kimberly is recovering from an almost deadly bout with pneumonia!  Right at this moment I am sitting in the hospital wishing she was able to be discharged already and in time for Christmas, but I guess we don’t always get what we want.  This Christmas season has probably been one of the most trying times for me…between Kimberly’s hospital stay and trying to keep up with a growing business it has been quite a lot to process.  I am so thankful for both, but sometimes life can be really hard…at least I have amazing friends, family, and staff to help me through everything.  I am still giving a little hope that Kimmy gets out Christmas morning (they are doing a final test to see if they can discharge her), but either way I am very blessed and will try to focus on that.

On another note, this past season I was able to collaborate with the lovely ladies of Posh Paperie and Carter & Cook.  I personally knew these ladies before we all went into the wedding biz and it is so fun now to be able to work with them and see them grow into such amazingly talented women.  This particular party was to showcase our holiday designs and was thrown in San Diego at WineStyles.  We had an absolute wonderful time and I think they photos show how talented these ladies really are!

Kimberly

Friday, December 18th, 2009

Well, as many of you might already know from my constant Twittering my little niece, Kimberly,who is only 3 years old, has been severely sick this past week and a half.  It was been an emotional roller coaster every step of the way!  It turns out she has an extremely bad case of pneumonia which has caused her to have two surgeries in just one week.  I have spent every waking moment away from the bakery right at her side, as she means more to me than words can express.  Praise the Lord that my little girl is getting better and on the road to recovery!  I can’t thank the Lord enough and am beyond blessed with an incredible set of family and friends.  Thank you so my sister who brought this little angel into my life and thank you to the Lord for keeping her with us!

Since at this very moment I am in the ICU unit with my princess I thought it perfectly fitting to share my love of my little Kimmy with all of you.  Since getting my new camera she has been my little model on every day off or family occasion, so I hope you enjoy these photos as much as I do!  I promise to get a blog post in with something edible soon…

Vintage Lace & Pink Peonies

I am so happy to put this post up for multiple reasons…#1 I was blessed enough to work with one my best wedding girlfriends Carissa, from JL Designs #2 All the photos that you are about to look at I took…I know, I know…I’m getting a little obsessed with my photography hobby, but hey, I LOVE it! #3 Janie from, The Brides Cafe, was sweet enough to feature this wedding on her wonderful blog today!  

Kristina and Nick were such a fun couple to work with!  They had great style, were extremely sweet, and with Carissa on their side I knew their wedding would be amazing!  Her look was vintage with shades of blush pink, white, and gold.  I LOVE this color scheme.  We decided to do a two tier cake along with a variety of mini desserts.  Carissa blew me away with her florals and design…simply gorgeous! Thanks so much for letting us be a part of your beautiful day Kristina & Nick!

Christmas Time @ Sweet & Saucy Shop

Well Christmas time has definitely arrived!  As you can probably tell from the lack of blog posts we have been BUSY like little elves at the shop lately!  Thanksgiving no sooner passed, then it was time for Christmas decor, so some of my sweet staff decided to come in the weekend after Thanksgiving and help me decorate the shop. I was also very lucky to get the chance to go with Carissa from JL Designs to the LA Flower Mart and pic up some decor.  Here are some fun photos of us girls in action!

I bought those fabulous wooden ornaments from one of my favorite stores, Blue Windows, which is on 2nd Street in Long Beach…if you are in the area definitely stop by!

Of course we needed to get in the holiday spirit with a new Christmas inspired dessert, so this past week we introduced our new Chocolate Peppermint Cupcakes. They have a chocolate cupcake base, peppermint buttercream, and are topped of with peppermint bark.  We also debuted our new Peppermint Brownie Cake Lollipops which are just as delightful tasting!

Another uber exciting announcement that I am so happy to write about it the new addition of Carissa’s amazing talent to my little shop.  jldesigns-holiday collection logo 2I knew when she told me of her new venture that I had to be a part of it somehow and miraculously it all worked out! Carissa will be selling her botanical pieces in my shop starting this Friday, so stop by and check them out!  She will also be at the shop all day Monday to chit chat and go over her designs with you in person.  Here is how she describes her new venture…

“well folks…

this has been on my mind for some time now…itching and nagging… this idea of creating high-end, botanical pieces that fit the JL DESIGNS vibe, but are also sustainable…i figured i have been putting this off long enough and that i should just pony up and launch a line already! ”  So without further ado here they are…
