Fun, Girlie Celebration Cakes

So sorry for the lack of posts lately! I had the amazing opportunity to visit New York last week with my mother as I was invited for an interview with Carly Roney, the editor of The Knot Magazine, for their LIVE weekly web episode! It was such a pleasure meeting all of the wonderful ladies at The Knot and they really made my time in New York even sweeter! I am about 19 minutes in and I don’t think you can scroll forward, but all the other guests they have featured and tips they give are great so I would recommend watching the whole thing!

It was quite an experience shipping a fully decorated dummy cake, cake stands, and desserts across the country and then having to prep it all for TV…I did survive it, but barely Of course I loved seeing it all set up and I have to say a big thank you to my fav girlfriend and uber talented wedding designer friend, Jesi Haack, who made me this gorgeous back drop! You are the best!

I was so happy to see Anja from The Knot and of course she is just as cute as her Twitter picture!

A sneak peak into the fabulous studio where it all happened…

Sadly the New York weather wasn’t the nicest too us while we were there (and I even got my iphone stolen the first night), but we did have an amazing time seeing Mama Mia & eating tons of yummy food!

I was so happy to have my mom there with me the whole time…I am definitely blessed!

Well enough talking, I of course have lots of fun photos of cakes we’ve done lately at the shop! We’ve done so many more specialty cakes this year, compared to last year and these next ones were really fun! First up this Louis Vuitton purse was a collaboration between Kyong and I (we like to work together on projects a lot)!

I definitely think the devil is in the details, so with purses you want to make it as realistic as possible.

This cake below was a sweet, girlie birthday cake…all pink please!

Our “favorite things” cakes are becoming more and more popular with people these days as many of them really want to personalize their cake and can’t hone it down to one theme/design, so instead we take all of their favorite things and put it onto one cake!

Kyong is great at small, detailed fondant pieces!

This wine bottle cake was a fun request from a regular client of ours. He wanted to surprise his wife with a exciting cake for her birthday which they were celebrating at a wine bar. He digitally made the wine label and we printed it with edible ink so that it had all of his wife’s info instead of an actual wine bottle’s info. He also loves the french macaroons we make at the shop, so he wanted us to make a grape cluster out of french macaroons as well.

Lastly this blinged out cake was for a fabulous 40th birthday party. She wanted it to be fun, girlie, and with lots of bling! We had a great time making it and I especially enjoyed making this new style sugar flower!

Amazing Sculpting Classes!!!

Well I just had to tell all of you about some amazing classes that are available for you to take. The talented Lorranie McKay & Kyla Myers will be teaching over at Classic Cake in Garden Grove, CA this upcoming week! Crazy Detailed Cakes

Sometimes when people call us to order a cake it is for a simple, basic designed cake and then other times we talk with clients who want over the top cakes with tons of detail and lots of their personality in it….these are definitely those types of cakes!

First up this is one of the largest celebration cakes we’ve ever done. We made this crazy, fun Bat Mitzvah cake for the sweetest girl Abby who actually saw us on TLC’s Fabulous Cakes. We had a ton of fun incorporating all of her favorite things into this one cake!

And of course all the details are made out of sugar! Don’t you love the Tom’s shoes that Kyong made!

This next cake was made for Nickelodeon. The Gir and Pig characters were quite fun to see made into cake!

One of our great repeat customers wanted a favorite things cake for her husband’s 40th birthday party, so we came up with this wild and crazy cake!

This next cake was for a client who wanted to mimic the golf setting that her husband plays golf at…it was a very interesting concept for a tiered style cake, but Kyong did a great job!

Gotta love the groom’s cakes! This bride wanted a cake that symbolized her husbands favorite pastime…FOOTBALL of course! And when football is your favorite sport that means a lot of couch time together

Kid’s Cakes

Well us ladies at Sweet & Saucy Shop don’t only do wedding cakes we also get the chance to make lots of fun kid’s cakes! Below are some of the recent ones we’ve done…enjoy!

For this fun Toy Story themed cake, Irene did a great job of buttercreaming & piping on this cake, which is quite task if you’ve ever tried and Kyong made the adorable fondant details!

One of my Dad’s employee’s wanted a NY Yankee themed cake for their little boy’s birthday and I have to say Kyong hit it out of the park

For this next princess castle cake I piped lots of pretty vines and added mini sugar flowers to make it whimsical and girlie.

This next cake is such a fun one…Kyong designed it and this time around the cake was for a little boy, so of course the ducky needed a little mohawk!

If you want bling, sparkle, and glitz this is the Sweet Sixteen cake for you!

For this cake the client sent us in a photo of this baby carriage that was actually painted on her pregnant belly and wanted to replicate the same painting in cake form, so this is what we came up with!

I just have to say that sugar pinwheels make everything cuter…

We don’t make lots of topsy turvy cakes at the bakery, but for this 1st birthday we pulled out all the stops and I think it turned out adorable. The client wanted to pull in her daughter’s initial “R” into the theme of the cake and Kyong came up with this great design!

We also made handpainted sugar cookies and a mini smash cake that matched as well…to cute huh!

Lastly we had the fun opportunity to make a Rapunzel cake based of the movie Tangled and so we thought it would be fun to do the tower that Rapuzel lived in with her locks of hair flowing down. I have to say it was quite a tediously process when I made all the stone wall effect and piped the vines and flowers, but overall I was really happy with it!
