Summer Wedding Cakes

Wednesday, September 26th, 2012

With summer always comes a time of year where we make more wedding cakes than we can count!  One weekend this summer we even had 45 cakes (wedding & specialty)!  I don’t know how the girls fit it all in the fridges, but they managed and we came out with some beautiful new cake designs!

First up one of my favorites of the season…bright coral sugar peonies, a teal/mint fondant base, and edible white sugar lace doilies.

Next is a more elegant lace cake with a pretty pink bow that has a silver jewel for the center.

This fun cake was a main feature in California Wedding Day Magazine.  They wanted to feature the trend of “ombre” so I decided to do a pink ombre and then add an unexpected pop of turquoise.  We then accented it with some pink sugar ranunculus!

One of our most popular summer cakes is our rustic style frosted wedding cake.  It is such a simple, yet gorgeous sight and I loved how the ladies of BashPlease accented it with these gorgeous florals for a wedding we did with them!

Our tallest cake of the season is the next one up!  I had to personally go set this one up to make sure it stood up nice and straight and thankfully it turned out great!

We have lots of Marie Antoinette fans out there and for this wedding they wanted lots of blush pink and gold…dreamy!

These next photos are right after the set up so the whole room wasn’t finished or cleaned up, but I just had to share all the pretty!

Another fun trend we started was the ombre buttercream cake.  I love this yellow one and then the large pop of the teal peony is such a sweet surprise!

Clean and modern defines this next cake with simple navy stripes and gorgeous golden sugar peonies.

Just had to include this mini wedding cake…a tiny 4″ cake with quilting, sugar pearls, and then accented with a real dahlia.

Thanks so much for stopping by the blog!  Definitely let us know which one was your favorite!

More Custom Cakes from Sweet & Saucy

Get ready for some cakes!  First up is one of the most tedious, time consuming cakes we have done yet!  This indian inspired groom’s cake was a team effort between all of us ladies and overall I am pretty thrilled with it.  The client brought a photo in that he wanted us to replicate, so the design isn’t ours although we changed the patterns up a little bit, but is was so fun to see it come to life!  Almost the entire cake was edible and we only used rice krispy treats for the bottom of his legs and bottom of his trunk!

Kyong did an amazing job sculpting the figurine…so realistic!

Anothe fav of mine that we did recently is this adorable circus/fair themed cake!  Can you believe that Kyong handpainted the cracker jack box?!?  I was in awe!

Love this fun batman themed cake…

We so enjoy being able to do cakes for LeAnn Rimes & Eddie and this cake was no different.  For Mason’s 9th birthday they wanted an over the top fun cake with his favorite character…the Silver Surfer

Gotta love groom’s cake…baseball is a popular one!

Another sports themed cake…this time the Raiders!

This Custom Beats by Dr. Dre portable speaker cake was a fun request.

Mini track cake!

I absolutely love this next cake…it is so much fun with the bold colors and mustaches!

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse cake

How fun are these fondant stacks of books?!?

Thanks so much for stopping by the blog and we hope you enjoyed taking a look at some of our cakes!

Anthropologie + Oh Joy

Thursday, September 13th, 2012

If you would of asked me a couple years back if I ever thought I would be doing desserts for Anthropologie and Oh Joy I would’ve said “No way”…well guess what?!?  I was lucky enough to be a part of such a fun event that was held at Anthropologie and you bet I was smiling all night long!  Joy, from Oh Joy, was the main attraction for their new line of Petite clothing and it was so fun finally getting to meet her in person!

The lovely Bonnie Tsang took that fabulous photo of Joy…love her work!  The event was such a success and for anyone that knows me I am obsessed with Anthropologie and shop there now-stop, so you know I enjoyed every minute!

I can’t thank Kristin, from Kristin Eldridge Photography, enough for these gorgeous photos of my desserts!  She seriously always blows me away when she photographs my stuff…love every photo!

For the desserts we decided to do some crowd pleasers and set them out on some of my favorite stands…vintage peach & clear glass, jadeite and milk stands!  First up always a popular one the mini key lime pies!

Mini cheesecakes with fresh raspberries and salted caramel french macarons.

Strawberry french macarons…

Our decadent brownies cut into triangles for a fun presentation.

Our #1 selling cupcake in Newport Beach…S’mores!

We had such a great time at this event!  Thanks so much for stopping by the blog!

Sweet & Saucy Shop Newport Beach

Saturday, September 8th, 2012

Well I can’t believe that it has been 3 1/2 months since we have been up and running in Newport Beach!  We can’t thank everyone enough for their support and love for our shop!  We have been overjoyed with the response that the community has given us and love meeting all of our new customers and also our loyal customers that have driven all the way to support us at our new location.

Everyone that knows me knows I LOVE photos and so I was so excited and blessed when Aaron Dieppa offered to shoot the new shop for me.  I was lucky enough to be a part of his wedding celebration a few years ago and now am so excited to see their family grow since they have a little one on the way.  I was so excited when I saw the photos of the shop he had taken and can’t thank him enough!

My Uncle Dan has always been such a big supporter of our business and we can’t thank him enough for the gorgeous signage he always does for us…you can check him out at Instant Signs.  I also have to give the biggest thanks to my amazing Daddy (Master Plumbing) who worked SO many hours getting the bakery shop ready for health code inspections (which is always a nightmare) and doing basically a huge construction project…you are the best!

Can you tell that I love cake stands…

0015-1828Our new chocolate chip cookie dough cupcakes…

One of the comments I always get all the time at the new shop is how much everyone loves the decor and of course I can’t stop smiling.  I always let everyone know that all the praise goes to Jeni from Found Vintage Rentals.  I told her the vision my mother and I had for the shop and she really brought it to life and we can’t sing her praises enough!

So far our #1 selling cupcake in Newport Beach is the S’mores cupcake…so yummy!

Thanks so much for stopping by the blog…up next I’ll post some photos from our first day in business!
