Bows for Blake – Part 2

Wednesday, June 5th, 2013

I have to say that I felt a little bit of pressure to pull off quite a dessert extravaganza for Blake’s 1st birthday party, but once we came up with a theme and my mind started going it became a lot of fun to dream up what I wanted for my little girl’s special day!  My amazing sister made the fabulous bow backdrop (with help from my cousin Kandyce too) and I have to say I was in love with it!  I added some gold dots and a golden “B” and that was the backdrop!  I also added plain and glitter gold dots to accent the table as well.   I have to thank my amazing team at Sweet & Saucy Shop since they literally brought all of my ideas to life and blew me away as always!

I tried to incorporate the bow theme into most of the desserts so for the salted caramel macarons we hand painted a gold bow on top.

I love tiny details so we added mini bows to the round rice krispy treats.

I had too many ideas for her cake and couldn’t commit to just one main cake design so I decided to do three cakes instead…I guess that is one perk of owning a bakeshop!  For the first one we did a gold glitter fondant with a mint and white polka dot large bow!

Next we did mini salted caramel tarts and accented them with mini pink chocolate bows!

I have a love affair with panna cotta so we did vanilla panna cotta shot glasses with a raspberry coulis on top!  Love these little spoons I believe I got from Shop Sweet Lulu too!

A customer fav and mini too are our Red Velvet cake lollipops that we dipped in white chocolate, add mint green modeling chocolate dots and a pink bow.  I also had fun using a variety of pink and gold stands as well from our collection and a lot of them are up for sale on our supply store Sweet & Saucy Supply!

I am so excited about my recent collaboration with Little Cat Design Co as she creates the cutest cake and dessert toppers out there!  She crafted this fabulous topper for Blake, as well as the mini wooden bows on the large cupcakes and the #1 on her smash cake!  We can’t wait until we start selling Katherine’s designs in our stores as well as online, which hopefully should be done in the next month or two.

For the main cake I wanted to keep it not too busy since the topper was the main show stopper so we did a simple pretty pink bow, large gold dot garland, and also crimped the edges of the tiers to add a little more detail.

One of my favorite parts of the whole table was the cake below!  I dreamed up the idea of having these bows painted all over the cake once I saw a print like it on pinterest and Kyong brought it to life perfectly!

We made some large strawberry cupcakes with chocolate ganache filling and dressed them up with ruffle frosting, bow toppers and gold cupcake holders.

At almost all my friend’s parties they always request our sugar cookies so I knew I needed to have some cute bow cookies on the menu for the party…

Last, but not least our ever popular mini key lime pies…cute as ever!

We are so blessed to live life with such a great community of people and so many of our friends have kiddos around Blake’s same age which always proves to be loads of fun when we get together!

My sweet sister made these adorable headband favors for the little girls at the party.  You can check out her shop on etsy at SaraRaeShop

Love my girlfriends!!!

Of course Blake needed a smash cake as well.  We did a simple mint buttercream cake with a cute little bow, polka dots, and another adorable topper from Little Cat Design Co

I had a feeling my little girl would attack the cake (she is a girl after my own heart) and she did exactly that!  She got right in there and we all loved every moment!

Of course she got to the moment of cake overload and clearly was DONE!

This is such a sweet photo below since both Angel and Christina had their sweet babies in March as well with me and we have enjoyed sharing so many precious moments of motherhood together.

This is the best photo we could get of all the kids…this day was clearly tons of fun and we were so blessed by everyone that came!

Cakes I have yet to share…

Thursday, April 11th, 2013

Time seriously goes by so fast and I can’t believe how many cakes I have yet to share with you guys that we did last year!  This post is a gathering of various photo shoots and weddings we were blessed to be a part of…hope you enjoy!

Most of the cakes below were shot by the amazing Jen Huang!  Her photos are simply gorgeous and I was so lucky to work with her on this shoot…some of my favorite cakes came out of it!  Major props to Kyong who always brings my visions to life when it comes to cakes!

I just love sugar flowers! My sister and I teamed up for this next cake and the turquoise sugar flowers below as well and I really adore how they turned out!

Bold and intense patterns below…

Simple, but cute!

Hand painting on cakes is one of my favorites new trends…

Color blocking is always fun on cakes these days…

Why not send your message through a cake design!

Another fun pattern that came to life perfectly on a cake.

Inspired by a moroccan theme we came up with golden bronze tiles and turquoise sugar flowers.

Might be one of my favorite cakes of all time below…I absolutely am smitten with the flowing sugar ribbons!

This next cake we did for a shoot with Mark Brooke Photography! We again used the hand painting technique and then added sugar roses.

Lastly these next two real weddings were so dreamy looking I had to add them to the post as well.  The cake isn’t our original design (the bride requested it from a photo she saw), but I love it and think it fits perfectly with the decor!

I always love working with Found Vintage Rentals since we get to use the cutest tables for our displays then.  Below is a fun set up  of a wedding last year!

I also wanted to let you know of two new classes we have added this month!  I will be teaching another fondant basics class since our first one went so well!  The class will be Sunday April 21st 3-6pm at the LB location.  You will learn how to cover a square and round cake, our tricks of the trade with fondant & stacking cakes, how to crimp, use stencils, bows, basic molds, and more.  It is $350 for the class which includes the supplies and there are only a couple more spots open. The other class my sister will be teaching and it’s Sunday April 28th 2-6pm at the LB location.  This class will be on the Dahlia & Poppy Sugar Flowers!  It is $215 and has a couple spots open as well.  Please email or call the LB shop to reserve your spot today!  info@sweetandsaucyshop.com

Featured!!!

Something that is always sure to put a smile on my face is to see our work in print, online, or in a book!  We have been so blessed this past year to be featured in some great magazines, websites, and books and below are a couple recent ones!

A month ago I was asked by Martha Stewart Weddings to design a cake based on their color palette series they were bringing back for their blog The Bride’s Guide and of course I jumped at the chance!  The color palette they wanted me to focus on was shades of pink, which I have to say I was pretty happy about!  I love pink and with Valentine’s thoughts running through my head it was a perfect time to design!  I had recently noticed the Wedding Chicks amazing pattern on their website and thought it would be a great design for a cake one day and so when I got asked to do this cake I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to try it out!  Below is the cake, the inspiration, and the feature on The Bride’s Guide!  Thanks to my sister for the photos she snapped of the cake!

Our new addition to our fondant team, Kasey, headed up this project and I think she did an amazing job executing my design!

Another fun feature we recently got in was for Martha Stewart Destination Weddings!  This was a last minute request from the magazine for a couple who got married in Palm Springs!  They already had their wedding cake that came with their hotel package in Palm Springs, but the magazine wanted gorgeous sugar flowers to accent it so they asked us to create them!  My sister did an amazing job with the sugar flowers and it was so fun seeing them in print!

We were lucky enough to be featured in The Knot Southern California for a wedding too that we did with Constance Curtis Events and Aaron Young Photography took the great photos!

Lastly we got featured in the UK’s You & Your Wedding Magazine with Kristeen Labrot Events and Jose Villa!  Love getting to work with so many talented people!

I also wanted to mention we have a couple spots left for our sugar flower class this Sunday from 2-6pm at our LB Bakery.  The class will teach you how to master the sugar peony and sugar rose, which are our two most popular sugar flowers!  The class is $215. If you are interested email us asap at info@sweetandsaucyshop.com to get more info and reserve your spot.

The other class that we have on the books is the last buttercream techniques class I will be teaching for a while.  We have had 3 great classes so far and our students have mastered the rustic, line buttercream, sugar encrusting, dots, and of course the most exciting ombre buttercream.  This class is Sunday, March 24th from 3-6pm for $185.  Email us at info@sweetandsaucyshop.com to sign up!

Martha Stewart Wedding Magazine: Leila & Tony’s Wedding

I have been wanting to share this for some time now since the magazine has been out for a while now, but here is it…

Martha-Stewart-Weddings-Spring-2012-Cover

A couple years back I had the pleasure of doing the cakes for Leila & Tony’s wedding and I have to say it was a stunning day!  The whole wedding was featured in the Spring 2012 issue of Martha Stewart Weddings Magazine.  Leila is the head of Be Inspired PR and it was my pleasure to be a part of her wedding day!

Leila wanted six cakes, all with different textures in buttercream and fondant and then Carissa, from JL Designs added fresh florals & figs to the cakes!  I absolutely adore the set up of the cakes!

South Western Meets Art Deco Americana Photo Shoot

Wednesday, October 17th, 2012

I am so lucky to get to work with some amazingly talented people in the wedding industry and this next photo shoot really shows off their talent! The shoot was inspired by Cassa de Perrin’s new Navajo dinnerware and then Jesi Haack came along and added her usual brilliant design spin to everything!  The photographer who always captures everything perfectly…Jose Villa, shot this for us as well!  This fab photo shoot is featured on 100 Layer Cake today so you can check out even more details over there!

Pitbulls and Posies seriously keeps knocking it out of the park with her designs…I absolutely love everything she makes!

Honey and Poppies created such amazing florals for this shoot and the bouquet is to die for!

For the cake I wanted to add a little glam to the Navajo design so we painted the whole cake gold and then Kyong added in some painted patterns at the base of the cake to bring some pops of color to the cake.  Then I accented the top of the cake with large succulents…loved how it turned out!

1011 Make up did such dreamy hair and make up for the shoot…this model is stunning!

Thanks so much for stopping by the blog and I hope you enjoyed the shoot!
