The Sweet & Saucy Shop Team

Over the years our bakery has grown and I am so blessed to share with you the wonderful team behind Sweet & Saucy Shop!  My mom and I are so blessed to have such an awesome staff and we really couldn’t do anything without them!  A couple months back my good friend and talented photographer Carlie of Gabriel Ryan Photography took new staff photos for us and I want to show them off today!  We also have a couple photos from our previous shoots with Ashley Rose Photography &  Diandra Ann Photography as well and they both captured my team perfectly too!

First we must of course start off with our resident taste tester (just kiddidng)…Miss Blake Eileen Brandon!  My mother-in-law found this adorable chef jacket and hat and so I of course had to dress her up for the photo shoot!

I absolutely love owning this shop with my mom and couldn’t do anything without her!

My gorgeous mom, Eileen, who runs all the business end of Sweet & Saucy Shop (a job I could never tackle) and of course has to make sure every cake lollipop is rolled to perfection as well!

I love that my Aunt Rosie has worked with us from the beginning…such a joy to work with family!  She works in the bakery and is our pro sugar cookie decorator among other things!

My fabulously talented bakery manager, Jenn, keeps our bakery running smooth and loves coming up with new desserts with me!

Here she is the macaron queen, Jess…her instagarm photos make many swoon and the taste of her macarons are to die for!

Heading up our cake team is the amazing Kyong!  She was the first person I let work on our cakes and now she, along with our whole cake team, pump out tons of gorgeous cakes each week!

Kasey is Kyong’s second half and they are quite the team on fondant cakes!  She is such a fast learner and very talented!

Irene is our buttercream master and also does most of our garden rose petal cakes, which is our most popular cake to date.

Francis is our newest addition to our cake team and has picked up both buttercream and fondant cakes in record time!  She is a joy to work with and on her spare time makes the cutest cake lollipops ever!

I have known Brandi since we are kids and it is so fun getting to work with her now too! She has been with us for quite a while now and runs our Newport Beach shop and preps all the daily desserts we make there!  She also heads up our cake stand store so she is one busy lady!

Christina has also been in our life since we were 13 years old so my mom and I love that she is now a part of the Sweet & Saucy team!  She always has a smile on her face and is in charge of our cake lollipop orders…which are quite a lot these days!

Franny joined our shop when we expanded into two shops and now works in our LB store as our assistant manager!  She helps make sure everything from mini pies, tarts, shot glass desserts, cupcakes and more go out on time every day!  She’s a great part of our team!

Michelle is the newest addition to the bakery!  She finished her internship with us and we couldn’t let her go!  She is hardworking, talented, and always has a great attitude!

We are so happy that Lisa, who interned with us at the beginning of our bakery has now come back and works full time with us!  She does all the early morning baking of our cupcakes and cakes amongst the other things!  She is so sweet and I’m blessed she came back to our team!

Sweet & Saucy Shop wouldn’t run at all without our amazing Wedding & Party Consultants!  They work hard everyday with our clients to make their dessert dreams come true and we love them all!

Jenny works at both our Newport Beach and Long Beach stores and her sense of humor, smart business knowledge, and work ethic are going to be sorely missed when she moves to Northern CA later this summer!  She is a gem!

Cortney is our head consultant in LB and has taken over being my right hand person is making sure everything runs super smooth each week!  Her to do list is a mile long, but she always manages to finish it all!  We are so excited for her upcoming wedding and can’t wait to see the dessert table she dreams up for it!

Jennifer is our main wedding consultant in Newport Beach and the customers love her there!  Her cheery attitude and bubbly smile always win them over and we love having her on our team over there!

Sadly not pictured, but very import is my sister Sara who is our resident sugar flower pro, our two new wedding consultant interns Katherine & Katie who are doing a fabulous job, of course my Dad who is co-owner and does all the hard work on our new shops, my husband Tim, who manages all our web stuff and keeps me sane, and our wonderful front counter staff Luke, Samantha, Graham, and Ashley!

When going through photos I came across these adorable ones of Blake hanging with our staff so of course I had to include them too!

Mother’s Day, Father’s Day & Graduation Desserts

Sweet & Saucy Shop Birthday Party

I never thought I would see something so sweet and special to my heart! The photos below are of the cutest little birthday party ever and it happens to be themed around our bakery…it’s a Sweet & Saucy Shop Party!!!  I was blown away when Hilary from The Sugar Studio, in San Francisco took a decorating class from me and then told me about her daughter’s birthday party and how it was themed after our shop since she was such a big fan!  When I finally saw the photos I couldn’t stop smiling!  Thanks so much Hilary for sharing these with us…your dessert skills are amazing and your daughter’s are so adorable!

Cakes I have yet to share…

Time seriously goes by so fast and I can’t believe how many cakes I have yet to share with you guys that we did last year!  This post is a gathering of various photo shoots and weddings we were blessed to be a part of…hope you enjoy!

Most of the cakes below were shot by the amazing Jen Huang!  Her photos are simply gorgeous and I was so lucky to work with her on this shoot…some of my favorite cakes came out of it!  Major props to Kyong who always brings my visions to life when it comes to cakes!

I just love sugar flowers! My sister and I teamed up for this next cake and the turquoise sugar flowers below as well and I really adore how they turned out!

Another fun pattern that came to life perfectly on a cake.

Inspired by a moroccan theme we came up with golden bronze tiles and turquoise sugar flowers.

Might be one of my favorite cakes of all time below…I absolutely am smitten with the flowing sugar ribbons!

This next cake we did for a shoot with Mark Brooke Photography! We again used the hand painting technique and then added sugar roses.

Lastly these next two real weddings were so dreamy looking I had to add them to the post as well.  The cake isn’t our original design (the bride requested it from a photo she saw), but I love it and think it fits perfectly with the decor!

I always love working with Found Vintage Rentals since we get to use the cutest tables for our displays then.  Below is a fun set up  of a wedding last year!

I also wanted to let you know of two new classes we have added this month!  I will be teaching another fondant basics class since our first one went so well!  The class will be Sunday April 21st 3-6pm at the LB location.  You will learn how to cover a square and round cake, our tricks of the trade with fondant & stacking cakes, how to crimp, use stencils, bows, basic molds, and more.  It is $350 for the class which includes the supplies and there are only a couple more spots open. The other class my sister will be teaching and it’s Sunday April 28th 2-6pm at the LB location.  This class will be on the Dahlia & Poppy Sugar Flowers!  It is $215 and has a couple spots open as well.  Please email or call the LB shop to reserve your spot today!  info@sweetandsaucyshop.com

 

Easter Desserts + Gorgeous Spring Shoot with Ruche

It’s not everyday you get to see your desserts alongside models, so this post is super fun to share!  Our consultant Jenny worked with Ruche and helped design some gorgeous cakes and desserts for their Spring time photo shoot with the amazing Stephanie Williams (her photos always make me swoon).  I absolutely love everything Ruche and shop there myself, so definitely check them out!

Well since Spring time is officially here and Easter is right around the corner I thought I would share with you our Easter themed desserts for this year!  We have lots of pretty cute goodies for you and plenty of packaged desserts to fill those Easter baskets up with!  Definitely pre-order since most of these style desserts will go quickly the day before Easter and we are closed on Sunday so our staff can enjoy time with their family and friends too!  We also have plenty of mini desserts like Passion Fruit Panna Cotta, Mini Key Lime Pies, or Strawberry Shortcake Shot Glasses to fill your Easter table with delicious desserts.

First up these adorable baby chick, chevron Easter egg, and bunny cake pops!

For cupcakes we can do little nests, pretty flowers, or little baby chicks.  For mini cupcakes we can accent them with little Easter eggs!

Our XOXO rice krispy treats all bagged up were so popular for Valentine’s Day that we thought we would create some for Easter and did some cute little eggs all pretty and ready to be eaten!

Of course we have to do our customer favorite sugar cookies!  Love the polka dot bunny!


And lastly for French Macarons we have specialty Easter bunnies and little eggs.  Of course you can just get an assortment of our regular macarons in pretty colors too! We can package them in our boxes as well which come in small size 4-5 macarons or large size 8-9 macarons.

Note: Easter egg macaron is same price as the bunny macaron.

Featured!!!

Something that is always sure to put a smile on my face is to see our work in print, online, or in a book!  We have been so blessed this past year to be featured in some great magazines, websites, and books and below are a couple recent ones!

A month ago I was asked by Martha Stewart Weddings to design a cake based on their color palette series they were bringing back for their blog The Bride’s Guide and of course I jumped at the chance!  The color palette they wanted me to focus on was shades of pink, which I have to say I was pretty happy about!  I love pink and with Valentine’s thoughts running through my head it was a perfect time to design!  I had recently noticed the Wedding Chicks amazing pattern on their website and thought it would be a great design for a cake one day and so when I got asked to do this cake I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to try it out!  Below is the cake, the inspiration, and the feature on The Bride’s Guide!  Thanks to my sister for the photos she snapped of the cake!

Our new addition to our fondant team, Kasey, headed up this project and I think she did an amazing job executing my design!

Another fun feature we recently got in was for Martha Stewart Destination Weddings!  This was a last minute request from the magazine for a couple who got married in Palm Springs!  They already had their wedding cake that came with their hotel package in Palm Springs, but the magazine wanted gorgeous sugar flowers to accent it so they asked us to create them!  My sister did an amazing job with the sugar flowers and it was so fun seeing them in print!

We were lucky enough to be featured in The Knot Southern California for a wedding too that we did with Constance Curtis Events and Aaron Young Photography took the great photos!

Lastly we got featured in the UK’s You & Your Wedding Magazine with Kristeen Labrot Events and Jose Villa!  Love getting to work with so many talented people!

I also wanted to mention we have a couple spots left for our sugar flower class this Sunday from 2-6pm at our LB Bakery.  The class will teach you how to master the sugar peony and sugar rose, which are our two most popular sugar flowers!  The class is $215.
