Little Boys & Bow Ties!

Sunday, February 6th, 2011

This post is definitely special to my heart! I had the pleasure along with Carissa of JL Designs & Courtney of Joyful Weddings & Events, of throwing one of my best girlfriends Jesi, from Jesi Haack Weddings a little baby shower to celebrate the birth of her adorable little son Maverick.  Jesi has been such a blessing in my life and I loved being about to give back to her just a little.  The theme that Courtney came up with was “Bow ties” and I have to say I was smitten with it from the start.

The talented ladies, Karrie & Elizabeth, from Posh Paperie created the cutest invitations and paper pieces for the party.  Of course I have to say a HUGE thank you to Carlie, of Gabriel Ryan Photography for the fabulous photos…they are just perfect!

A fun little side not about the shower is that it was actually held at my new house I bought last year.  Carissa did a beautiful job with the flowers & Courtney’s little accents along the way were so much fun.

I had so much fun using some of the pieces from Sweet & Saucy Supply for the shower.  The colorful stands are such a great pop of color on the table.

I had so much fun setting up the desserts on my new vintage dresser I found at the LA Flea Market!  We made a small ruffle cake with a fondant bow tie accent, french macaroons, cake lollipops, mini cupcakes, and of course some bow tie sugar cookies.

Lots of New Specialty Cakes

Sunday, October 17th, 2010

I have lots of fun specialty cakes to share with you!  My team at the shop is so awesome and I definitely relay on them for SO much around the shop.  Kyong in particular does most of the cakes with me and she is especially talented and loves making special occasion cakes!  A lot of these cakes are all Kyong, so I definitely need to brag about her!  She is a great part of the team and I’m definitely blessed by her!

First up, a groom’s cake we made for a sports lover!  His bride surprised him by combining all three of his favorite teams on one cake!

We definitely do lots of baby shower cakes and a lot of clients love the baby feet so we have found ways to incorporate them into different cake designs.

We had the opportunity to do a fun Yo Gabba Gabba cake and cake lollipops for “Steve Urkel” from the hit show Family Matters. His little one turned one and we got to do the treats!

New Special Occasion Cakes!

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Although we do mostly wedding cakes at the shop we also love making special occasion cakes to help people celebrate that special day in their lives!  These types of cakes can sometimes require a lot more work and detail then wedding cakes, but I find that it’s all or nothing when it comes to them because when you say you will make someone a cake that replicates a real life item it either looks like it or not…not too much room for error.  With that being said, my big undertaking this month was a DJ Turntable Cake.  I was pretty happy with how it came out, but definitely underestimated the hours I would have to put into it!

And since it was a 1st Birthday Cake we added a special element for the birthday boy!

IMG_8611.JPG

This next cake was for a 25th birthday party!  She loved peacock feathers and knew her color scheme, so we took that and ran with it!  My sister made the sugar flower and feathers and I think they are amazing!

Kid’s cakes are a lot of fun too, but I try to make sure they still follow my style and don’t get too overdone…here is a Panda Bear Cake with tiny sugar flowers and butterflies!

My assistant, Louisa, made the Panda Bear and I think it turned out great! I love the half smile and cute little face!

Now sometimes people don’t have a lot of money to spend on a special occasion cake, but want something beautiful and delicious, so I always suggest the rustic style cream cheese frosting cakes with fresh flower accents because I think they are just as gorgeous in their own simplistic way!

We also got to do a recent Sweet Sixteen Birthday Cake and she wanted a princess tiara crown and a bold sugar flower!

Lastly one of my favorite cakes recently was for a small wedding we did last weekend.  My new intern, Kyong, is definitely an artist and when I showed her the design I wanted to have painted on the cake she did it better than I could’ve imagined.  I was also quite happy with this garden rose sugar flower I made.  I wasn’t sure how I would like the flower once it had the red tips on it, but I was pleasantly surprised…I think it made it pop and really showed the gorgeous petals off!

Well thanks for stopping by to check out my blog!  I’m currently in Texas and about to run off to my first day of class with Mike McCarey! We will be learning cake structure for crazy cakes and will be remaking this fantastic Big Bird Cake that Mike made for a Food Network Competition…wish me luck!

An Eventful Post

Friday, January 15th, 2010

Well as you probably know these kind of posts come up every couple months when I have so many small events that I want to feature, so I cram them all together into one large, mega post!  There is a lot of eye candy coming up, so definitely let me know what’s your favorite!  First off I recently got to do a wedding with Jesi Haack Weddings & Sarah K Chen at The Marvimon House (which I LOVE).  I met Jessica, the bride, at The White Dress in Cornona Del Mar when we did a wedding showcase there and we definitely hit it off.  She told me her and her fiance, Curt, wanted to have an out-of-the-box kind of wedding cake.  The wanted sleek, modern, and rustic all at the same time and threw out the idea of a square cake that looked like a real block of wood, SO that is just what we did.  They had goodies on the dessert table from friends, family, and local bakeries, but we were really happy to do their special wedding cake.  Their wedding was to say the least AMAZING…it has been featured all over the wedding blog world, so I am pretty sure you have seen the photos already, but if not here is just a little sneak peak into their special day.  To see all the photos from their wedding check out this post! Thanks for the great photos Sarah!

This next cake was for a baby shower and they had an owl invitation they wanted me to grab inspiration from.  She wanted the cake to be simple and modern with some fun accents.  They were also kind enough to send me some personal photos that they took at the shower…thanks!

I also got the pleasure of providing mini desserts for Jessica Claire’s recent Shootsac party.  I loved how the set up turned out and of course I got some gorgeous photos from Jessica!

Now these two deadly cookies are my main addiction every day in the bakery!  My sole mission is trying to not grab one from the front of the store and eat it, but sadly I fail often!  Chocolate Chunk Cookies & White Chocolate Oatmeal Cranberry Cookies are in the shop daily, so if you are near by definitely stop in!

Baby Shower Cake Plus Cookies & Cupcakes

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

There will be more photo shoots pictures to come, but in the meantime I wanted to share with you a recent baby shower cake I did.  This was for a fun mommy-to-be and she basically said she wanted a cute, girly cake for her little princess, so this is what I created!  The inside was Red Velvet Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting…yummy!

Here are some photos along the way of the process…

These other two photos are of recent orders…the first was for a law school graduate who wanted the weight scale on his cookies with the school’s colors.  The last photo is of a mini Red Velvet Cupcake with Cream Cheese Frosting.  We then made mini sugar flowers to match the invitations.

Thanks for stopping by and checking out my sweets!
