Fun Pops of Color

Monday, June 6th, 2011

Sometimes when designing cake I tend to stay to more neutral colors and wouldn’t always think to cover a whole cake in all color, but these next two cakes definitely remind me that some fun pops of color just might be the perfect thing sometimes!

I have to thank my amazingly talented friend Michelle, from Mibelle Photography, for the stunning photos.  She is always so sweet and orders so many cakes from me and I am even more lucky when I get the photos back from the events!  This yellow floral cake was one she ordered for her best friend’s bridal shower.  I loved the room decorations they put up and they even rented the clear stand from my friend Carissa and filled it with lemons and more florals…love it!

Some of you might recognize this cake design since it was one I came up with based off a painting and Sydney loved the original so much she wanted to do it for her wedding cake as well, but this time we did it in a fun purple color.  Kyong did this cake and I think it turned out perfectly!

For the set up instead of using cake stands Sydney wanted to use old cigar boxes…I think it turned out great!

We get lots of requests for Toy Story cakes and I love this next one with the jean and cowboy print pattern.  The badges are so fun too.

For this sweet baby shower cake we pipped on tiny dots to mimic the clothing lines and then hung some baby onsies on them.

This cake is all about fairies, dreams, and flying ponies!  The little girl sent us some photos of her room and we tried to make that design into a dreamy cake for her.

Lastly one of my favorite shower cakes I’ve done…I just love the simplicity of it…the buttons, sugar thread, and delicate sugar flower.  I got the chance to make this cake for a high school friend of mine and it was such a pleasure.

I also made some matching button sugar cookies.  We frosted them with royal icing so they tasted yummy and delicious and then I draped a super thin piece of fondant on top to give it the detail and texture it needed.

Sugar Flowers & Bridal Showers

Friday, March 27th, 2009

Well, as you know my sister and I are trying to learn how to make all sorts of sugar flowers.  We have become quite obsessed with them and my credit card bill definitely proves it!  I have only actually taken one class from Ron Ben-Israel on how to make sweet pea sugar flowers and the rest we have learned through books and watching videos from Nicholas Lodge.  Sugar flowers are very tedious and require a lot of patience (and tools), but they are also one of the more artistic aspects of cake decorating.  The cake was buttermilk cake with white chocolate mousse buttercream and fresh strawberries…yummy! We made it for a recent bridal shower and were very excited to put our sugar flower knowledge to the test and create a gorgeous cake for the bride-to-be!

We had such a great time making these peonies, berries, parrot tulips, and butterflies!  Definitely let me know which one you liked the best!
