MORE Specialty Cakes Coming Your Way!

Monday, October 18th, 2010

Since I couldn’t fit all the specialty cakes in one post I thought I’d do a “Part II”!  First up is a gorgeous 1st birthday cake we did for a sweet little girl!  I especially love the crown on this one!

This next cake was a fun one that Kyong did amazing at!  Everything is so crisp and clean…I love it!  This cake was for a 70th birthday party for a father & grandfather so the client had us put all the special words that mean something to him on the board. It was also the client’s daughter’s birthday, so we threw in one large chip with a birthday wish on it for her as well!

This cake was made for a special teenage girl who wanted a fabulous cake for her birthday.  Her mother said she always watched all the cake shows & so it was really fun to be able to give her a special cake for her birthday too!

I’m surprised that we haven’t done a Dora cake yet at the shop, but this was really our first one.  It turned out quite cute and I hope the little girl loved it as much as we did!

This last spread is special since we got to make the cake & cake lollipops for a friend of mine.  Michelle, from Mi Belle Inc, threw the cutest baby shower for a friend of hers and asked us to do a surf themed cake.  I loved that she set it all up on a real surfboard…what a great idea!

Of course she had to have some red velvet cake lollipops!

Homestyle Vintage Wedding

Monday, April 26th, 2010

I had a great last weekend full of fun weddings with lots of great details and I just had to share this one with you.  The bride’s mother planned a lot of the details for the day and then hired on the amazing Amanda from In the Now to further help with the design & make sure the day came together perfectly…and boy did it!  The wedding reception was dessert only and so we had a lot of fun doing all sorts of yummy treats!  The bride wanted a three tier cake, plus 4 rustic style cakes, and then loads of mini desserts.  Overall it turned out great!  These rustic salted caramel apple pies were too cute!

A Proposal & Wedding

Monday, January 25th, 2010

Well a lot of fun things have been happening at the shop recently!  A few months back the sweetest guy ever, Devin, emailed me asking if I was possibly up for him proposing to his girlfriend Kristen at our shop.  He said Kristen was a big fan of the blog and lover of sweets like me, so of course without thinking twice I said a big YES!  Time went by and Devin kept me in the loop with his plans of them flying to California and his thoughts on how to propose.  He designed the gorgeous ring himself and wanted me to make a cake with some of the design elements incorporated into it.  We set the cake up with the rest of our daily treats and had a sign made for it that said “Turn Around Kristen”!  When they walked in the door I was a little nervous that I would mess up their special moment, but thankfully everything went as planned…Kristen had absolutely no idea of what was going on and we chatted for about 5 minutes before she even glanced at the desserts.  Then I tried to describe the treats and point her in the direction of the special cake…she was still not catching on…so finally I asked her if she could read me what “flavor” the cake was. Instead she told me the sign read “Turn Around Kristen” and that she was Kristen, SO I told her to turn around and as you can guess the rest is history!

IMG_7751.JPG

Here are some photos of the gorgeous ring that he sent me for inspiration…Kristen is one lucky lady!

And yes I should’ve put a little make-up on and done my hair, but I’m a baker right…

IMG_7772.JPG

Thank you so much Devin and Kristen for letting us share in your special moment!  I am so happy for you both and wish you only the best!

This next wedding was such a pleasure to do also!  The bride, Kerri, was so much fun to work with and really jumped into helping with the design and set up.  Kerri & her mother made all of the cake stands by gluing plates onto cups, bowls, and candlesticks and bought matching platters to go along with them.  I love it!  She also made the backdrop and the signs too!

IMG_7663.JPG

I am finally getting time to make more sugar flowers lately and had a great time making this orange ranunculus flower.

IMG_7730.JPG

IMG_7723.JPG

They wanted their guests to have lots of yummy mini desserts too so we made mini candy bar cupcakes, mini lemon cupcakes with fresh raspberries, vanilla cake lollipops,  chocolate espresso cake lollipops, and mini chocolate peanut butter pies.

Christmas Time

Friday, December 25th, 2009

First of all thank you SO much for your sweet comments about my little niece Kimberly.  I appreciate your kind words more than you know.  Praise the Lord Kimberly is recovering from an almost deadly bout with pneumonia!  Right at this moment I am sitting in the hospital wishing she was able to be discharged already and in time for Christmas, but I guess we don’t always get what we want.  This Christmas season has probably been one of the most trying times for me…between Kimberly’s hospital stay and trying to keep up with a growing business it has been quite a lot to process.  I am so thankful for both, but sometimes life can be really hard…at least I have amazing friends, family, and staff to help me through everything.  I am still giving a little hope that Kimmy gets out Christmas morning (they are doing a final test to see if they can discharge her), but either way I am very blessed and will try to focus on that.

On another note, this past season I was able to collaborate with the lovely ladies of Posh Paperie and Carter & Cook.  I personally knew these ladies before we all went into the wedding biz and it is so fun now to be able to work with them and see them grow into such amazingly talented women.  This particular party was to showcase our holiday designs and was thrown in San Diego at WineStyles.  We had an absolute wonderful time and I think they photos show how talented these ladies really are!
