A Proposal & Wedding

Monday, January 25th, 2010

Well a lot of fun things have been happening at the shop recently!  A few months back the sweetest guy ever, Devin, emailed me asking if I was possibly up for him proposing to his girlfriend Kristen at our shop.  He said Kristen was a big fan of the blog and lover of sweets like me, so of course without thinking twice I said a big YES!  Time went by and Devin kept me in the loop with his plans of them flying to California and his thoughts on how to propose.  He designed the gorgeous ring himself and wanted me to make a cake with some of the design elements incorporated into it.  We set the cake up with the rest of our daily treats and had a sign made for it that said “Turn Around Kristen”!  When they walked in the door I was a little nervous that I would mess up their special moment, but thankfully everything went as planned…Kristen had absolutely no idea of what was going on and we chatted for about 5 minutes before she even glanced at the desserts.  Then I tried to describe the treats and point her in the direction of the special cake…she was still not catching on…so finally I asked her if she could read me what “flavor” the cake was. Instead she told me the sign read “Turn Around Kristen” and that she was Kristen, SO I told her to turn around and as you can guess the rest is history!

Here are some photos of the gorgeous ring that he sent me for inspiration…Kristen is one lucky lady!

Now grab some tissues everyone!  Too bad we didn’t have a recorder going because Devin made one of the most romantic proposals ever…very touching!

And yes I should’ve put a little make-up on and done my hair, but I’m a baker right…

IMG_7772.JPG

Thank you so much Devin and Kristen for letting us share in your special moment!  I am so happy for you both and wish you only the best!

This next wedding was such a pleasure to do also!  The bride, Kerri, was so much fun to work with and really jumped into helping with the design and set up.  Kerri & her mother made all of the cake stands by gluing plates onto cups, bowls, and candlesticks and bought matching platters to go along with them.  I love it!  She also made the backdrop and the signs too!

I am finally getting time to make more sugar flowers lately and had a great time making this orange ranunculus flower.

They wanted their guests to have lots of yummy mini desserts too so we made mini candy bar cupcakes, mini lemon cupcakes with fresh raspberries, vanilla cake lollipops,  chocolate espresso cake lollipops, and mini chocolate peanut butter pies.

Melissa & Bryan’s Wedding…To Die For!

Monday, January 11th, 2010

Melissa & Bryan were some of the first weddings clients that I booked back when I started that I KNEW would be amazing and I have to toot my own horn and say that I was right…it was AMAZING!  Their attention to detail was fabulous and their sense of style really showed through in everything from the flowers to the dresses.  Of course a wedding this gorgeous takes a whole team to pull off…Courtney from Joyful Weddings & Events did such a great job with every detail, Amelia & Justin Lyon killed the photos (definitely some of my favorites EVER), Nicole DeAnne made Melissa look stunning on her special day, and Kristin from The Treasured Petal blew me away with the flowers!  Rancho Las Lomas is one of my favorite venues to work at and from the photos you can see it is a lovely backdrop for a wedding!  Well now that you know how this beautiful wedding came together lets look at some photos!

Christmas Time

Friday, December 25th, 2009

First of all thank you SO much for your sweet comments about my little niece Kimberly.  I appreciate your kind words more than you know.  Praise the Lord Kimberly is recovering from an almost deadly bout with pneumonia!  Right at this moment I am sitting in the hospital wishing she was able to be discharged already and in time for Christmas, but I guess we don’t always get what we want.  This Christmas season has probably been one of the most trying times for me…between Kimberly’s hospital stay and trying to keep up with a growing business it has been quite a lot to process.  I am so thankful for both, but sometimes life can be really hard…at least I have amazing friends, family, and staff to help me through everything.  I am still giving a little hope that Kimmy gets out Christmas morning (they are doing a final test to see if they can discharge her), but either way I am very blessed and will try to focus on that.

On another note, this past season I was able to collaborate with the lovely ladies of Posh Paperie and Carter & Cook.  I personally knew these ladies before we all went into the wedding biz and it is so fun now to be able to work with them and see them grow into such amazingly talented women.  This particular party was to showcase our holiday designs and was thrown in San Diego at WineStyles.  We had an absolute wonderful time and I think they photos show how talented these ladies really are!

Well, as most of you can tell from my lack of posts I am barely hanging onto my sanity! The shop is basically all I sleep, breathe, and eat these days! I knew it would be a lot of work, but let me say that it is really A LOT of work starting up a dessert studio! I am loving every second…well, maybe not every second (the late night dishes, lack of sleep, and nervous stomach aren’t too much fun), but overall I am really, really happy with how everything is going! I have so much to blog about, but before I try to do all of that I had to let everyone know about my absolute favorite online wedding magazine…Utterly Engaged! You must check it out…even if you are already married or not in the wedding time of your life, the magazine is filled with gorgeous photos, interesting people, and fun ideas. I was beyond excited when they asked if they could feature my new studio and had a blast when they came out for the photo shoot. I of course had to get my adorable nieces and handsome little brother in on the fun…they are my cutest advertisement! A big thanks to Eva Chiou, Lucia Dinh and Henny Setiadi, they are the talented ladies behind all the magic. I also can’t forget to thank Brandon Kidd who was the amazing photographer who shot all the photos…if you are in the Southern California area and need a photographer I definitely recommend checking him out. Well here is the link to the whole magazine and sneak peak at my feature! Utterly Engaged Magazine!
