Ace Hotel Photo Shoot

Monday, June 13th, 2011

Happy Monday!  I am so happy to share this next photo shoot with you…it might be one of my favorites of all time!!!  One of my best girlfriends, Jesi Haack, wanted to do a fun shoot at the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs and I knew I had to be in on it.  I love the fun pops of color everywhere and the florals that my sweet friend Carissa, from JL Designs, created are simply stunning! Gabriel Ryan Photography shot the fabulous photos!

For the cake I was really inspired by a chevron style pillow I saw online and wanted to mimic that on the cake, so Kyong hand painted the design in various color and then we accented the top of the cake with a vibrant sugar flower!

Christmas Time @ Sweet & Saucy Shop

Monday, December 7th, 2009

Well Christmas time has definitely arrived!  As you can probably tell from the lack of blog posts we have been BUSY like little elves at the shop lately!  Thanksgiving no sooner passed, then it was time for Christmas decor, so some of my sweet staff decided to come in the weekend after Thanksgiving and help me decorate the shop. I was also very lucky to get the chance to go with Carissa from JL Designs to the LA Flower Mart and pic up some decor.  Here are some fun photos of us girls in action!

I have to thank photographer and friend, Kristin Eldridge, for taking most of these gorgeous photos!  If you have a chance definitely stop by her website…she is an amazing children’s photographer and captures moments that you’ll remember forever!

I bought those fabulous wooden ornaments from one of my favorite stores, Blue Windows, which is on 2nd Street in Long Beach…if you are in the area definitely stop by!

Here are some photos I took of the arrangements and sugar cookie ornamants!

Of course we needed to get in the holiday spirit with a new Christmas inspired dessert, so this past week we introduced our new Chocolate Peppermint Cupcakes. They have a chocolate cupcake base, peppermint buttercream, and are topped of with peppermint bark.  We also debuted our new Peppermint Brownie Cake Lollipops which are just as delightful tasting!

Another uber exciting announcement that I am so happy to write about it the new addition of Carissa’s amazing talent to my little shop.  jldesigns-holiday collection logo 2I knew when she told me of her new venture that I had to be a part of it somehow and miraculously it all worked out! Carissa will be selling her botanical pieces in my shop starting this Friday, so stop by and check them out!  She will also be at the shop all day Monday to chit chat and go over her designs with you in person.  Here is how she describes her new venture…

“well folks…

this has been on my mind for some time now…itching and nagging… this idea of creating high-end, botanical pieces that fit the JL DESIGNS vibe, but are also sustainable…i figured i have been putting this off long enough and that i should just pony up and launch a line already! ”  So without further ado here they are…

Also if you are wondering who took Carissa’s lovely photos look no further than the talented husband and wife team of Gabriel Ryan Photographers…two of my personal favs!

Lincoln’s Baby Shower

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

Well, when my sweet friends Gabriel & Carlie, who are also the fabulous photography team behind Gabriel Ryan Photography, asked me if I could help out with some sweet treats for their baby shower I jumped at the chance!  Not only are they the sweetest couple ever, but some of the most talented and amazingly creative too!  They also recruited Jesi Haack, from Jesi Haack Weddings, and Carissa, from JL Designs, to help out with the design and florals too…how could I ever turn down that dream team opportunity!  Those two ladies surprise me every time with their fresh, new ideas…

Little Lincoln’s day was one for the books, the style, creativeness, and love behind this event is clearly evident in the photos to come!  Everyone added their special touch to the day and it turned out perfect!  I am so excited for Carlie and Gabriel and blessed to have them, and soon baby Lincoln, in my life!  Another fun perk of the day was that I got to use my NEW CAMERA!  I have basically been wanting a professional camera for 4 years now and recently was able to get one for my birthday…I have been ADDICTED ever since!  I even bought a new purse so my new little baby would be able to go everywhere with me.  Gabriel was kind enough to go with me camera shopping and boy was I happy!  I got a Canon 50D, a 50mm lens, and a 28-135mm lens. Of course Gabriel’s fabulous photos outshine mine by a million degrees, but I thought I would include some of my detail shots for the heck of it!  I hope you enjoy the eye candy!

I can’t say enough about all the details that were not left undone.  I believe that the most important part of any event are the personal touches and this shower had more than I can count…oh by the way, how cute is the mother-to-be!!!

Bride & Bloom Magazine!!!

Monday, July 6th, 2009

Well, as you can see change has come to the blog!  Thanks to my sweet hubby for redesigning my blog to look more like my new website!  I can’t believe I have been blogging almost 1 1/2 years now…times flies when you are having fun!

I hope everyone had a fabulous 4th of July weekend!  I loved finally having a little free time with the family and tried very hard to keep my mind off the millions of things I need to do for work.  Who knew that ordering bakery equipment and supplies could be so daunting!?!  I think I have over analyzed every aspect of cupcake liners, packaging design, ovens, and baking racks.  I am happy to announce that I placed my HUGE order for all the baking equipment and tried not to look at the price quote when I got it…I simply closed my eyes and signed the check!  I have to give a shout out to my WONDERFUL parents who have practically funded my whole dream and decided to jump on board as partners in the business with my husband and I!  I absolutely LOVE working with my family and so happy that they will all be surrounding me as I take this crazy journey into sugar, spice, and “hopefully” everything nice!

One thing that has made this journey so sweet has been the amazing vendors that I have met along the way and now I am even lucky enough to call them friends!  Carissa from JL Designs has probably helped me more than anyone in the wedding industry and has truly been a blessing in my life!  She is the most talented floral and event designer and seriously blows me away each time I see her work!  I can still remember the first time she asked me to tag along to one of her photo shoots and I couldn’t believe it!  It was so last minute, but I didn’t care…my sister and I busted out 6 mini cakes and a two tiered wedding cake in one night!  When I asked who the photographers would be and Carissa said Carlie & Gabriel from Gabriel Ryan Photographers I was jumping for joy! I am in love with their work and was so excited for them to shoot my sweets!  They are not only talented, but some of the most fun, genuine, and sweet people I know!  We were all also so lucky to work with Allison from Invitation Innovations, Desiree from Wildflower Linens, and Megan from Classic Party Rentals!  Carissa’s fabulous publicist Leila Khalil, from Be Inspired PR, landed us in the new issue of Bride & Bloom Magazine and I can’t thank her enough!  Here is one of the two shoots we did that day!

I also wanted to share a couple more photos with you from the dessert studio!  A lot has happened this past week, but most importantly my front bakery case got put it!!!  Thanks so much to Ben Brigham for his amazing custom wood work!  I basically told him what I liked and let him do his thing and was so happy with the results!  I do have to say the photos are great, but it even looks better in person, so once I’m open I hope you stop by!

Lots of Announcements!

Friday, June 5th, 2009

Lots of exciting things have been happening lately, which accounts for the lack of blogging…so sorry!  First off I have been waiting to announce this for quite some time…drumroll please…my new website is up!  I have to give a major shout out to my hubby @ 24Medium and one my best girlfriends Karrie @ karriepykedesigns for the wonderful site.  They took my idea and ran with it and it is more than I could’ve ever dreamed of!  I also have to thank all the wonderful vendors that I have worked with along the way…they made all the difference in the world!  The blog is the next in line for an update, so watch out!

My hubby also persuaded me to join the Twitter World, so if you are on there too you can follow me and my crazy updates!

This past week I also got the biggest shock of my life when Style Me Pretty, which if you don’t know is basically the biggest wedding blog out there, featured my cakes!  Thanks so much Abby!  My cakes would never had made it on there without the help of Carissa from JL Designs, who designed the tablescapes, and Jasmine Star, who took the gorgeous photos!  You girls are the best…I am way too lucky to work with you! The rest of the gorgeous photos will be blogged soon so keep your eye out for them!

I also wanted to let everyone know to check out Jasmine’s fabulous blog so you can see all the gorgeous photos she took of my desserts that I brought to her event last night!  She captures things in a way I could never…thank you so much!

And last, but not least are some photos of the dessert studio to keep you up on the process!  The electrical, plumbing, and walls are all up and ready to go!  The sinks and hood just came in and next week the flooring and painting gets done…then it is time to MOVE IN!!!  Can’t wait!

Thanks for checking in!  Hopefully I will be blogging a lot more this week since I have SO many photos to share with you!
