Miley Cyrus’ 18th Birthday Party

Monday, November 22nd, 2010

Well as most of you know Miley Cyrus did an amazing job at the AMA’s last night and then went off to a huge 18th Birthday Celebration at Le Trousdale in West Hollywood!  We were beyond excited to be able to do the dessert spread and birthday cake for her!!!

We were told that she loves dream catchers and the bohemian style, so we focused the whole dessert table around that.  We did a tier birthday cake with hand carved dream catchers, sugar feathers, and sugar turquoise beads.  I wanted to stick with the color scheme of brown, gold, white, and turquoise and I loved the final outcome.  Not only did we do a giant cake, but we also did a custom dessert bar with over 500 desserts!  It was quite a spread!  I have to thank my dear friend and the fabulously talented Jesi Haack, from Jesi Haack Weddings, for the perfect backdrop she created for me!  She hand made all of the golden dream catchers and made the backdrop with ivory burlap and lace…I LOVED it!!!  Of course my wonderful girls, Elizabeth and Karrie, from Posh Paperie created the dessert cards that fit flawlessly with the whole look!

Well enough talking…here are the photos that are already all over the internet!

Modern Photo Shoot

Thursday, November 18th, 2010

I absolutely love getting to do photo shoots with talented people and this shoot was definitely one of them!  I teamed up with my dear friends Courtney, from Joyful Weddings & Events, Carissa, from JL Designs, and Elizabeth & Karrie, from Posh Paperie for this amazing opportunity!  The fabulous wedding photographer, Jessica Claire, asked us to do a mock wedding set up for one of her photo workshops and I have to say that I think we went to town!  I absolutely love this modern, bold look for a wedding!  I thought it would be fun to start out with dessert photos for a chance, so here they are!

Lots of Eye Candy!

Sunday, October 3rd, 2010

Now that summer has officially ended I thought I would have time to breathe and the amount of weddings each weekend would slow down, turns out that October is one of our busiest months ever!  The last couple months we have had the pleasure of making so many wedding cakes for amazing people and I am truly blessed to look back on this summer and see what we did!  Here are some photos of recent cakes we have done…enjoy!

First up, one of my favorites!  We got to explore the Wedge Wood style for this cake and I really loved how it turned out!  We searched hi and low for real pieces that we could make custom molds out of and I love the detail that each mold brought to the cake.

This cake we did a whimsy style white flower with a black center and then did hand painting on the cake that matched the invitations for the wedding.

Here is a fun peak at the whole set up from the fabulous Amelia Lyon!

I also got the chance to make a cake for my dear friend Nancy’s daughter.  I went to pastry school with Nancy and we have kept in touch over the years, so it was quite an honor to have her ask me to make her daughter’s wedding cake!

This bridal shower cake the client wanted it to be fun & girly, so we did white crystal sugar all over the white fondant cake and then accented it with a fushia sugar flower, black fondant ruffle, and three black brooches.

This wedding cake below is very sweet and taylored looking.  Sugar bows, brooches, and quilting…oh my!

This next cake was for a small Indian style wedding we recently did.  I loved the pattern and colors that we used on this cake!

When writing this post I can see that we have made a LOT of fushia sugar flowers lately!  Although a lot of the cakes have similar flowers, the overall design is completely different.  This cake had brown ribbons, damask, white chocolate jewels & brooches.

This next cake was on the simple side.  The main accent piece we made was designed after the bride’s dress.  She had white jewels on her dress, but we wanted to pull in the avocado color in her wedding so we did the jewels in that color.

Another sweet pink cake we did for a birthday party!  The design was based off of a cake from Confetti Cakes that the client liked…very cute style!

This last design was a very fun one to see come to life.  I loved the gardenia flower and the whimsy style flowers & vines. I made them all out of sugar paste with new molds that we made.  Since grey is one of my favorite colors I loved seeing it on a cake too!

Hollywood Hills Wedding

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

When I first met Heath &  Olivia I was blown aways with just how gorgeous of a couple they were.  They were truly in love and beaming from ear to ear.  Their photos were no different and really made me pause for a second and just stare at the beautiful location, food, friends, and decor!  Uyen from Sassy Girl Weddings & Events did an amazing job on this wedding and is always a joy to work with!  This was my first time working with Float Away Studios and I can’t believe how gorgeous their photography is! The setting for the wedding was at the beautiful Villa Fiona in the Hollywood Hills…what a great find that was!

They had their monogram featured throughout their wedding and wanted to include it on the cake too.  For the cake they wanted a modern, clean black and white cake.  We added a little texture to it by adding white fondant bands all up the cake with a central black band in the middle.  They did lots of fun mini desserts too!

Sweet & Saucy Shop on TLC’s Fabulous Cakes

Monday, August 9th, 2010

So hopefully by now all of you have had a chance to see our Fabulous Cakes episode on TLC!  It was such a great experience and I feel really blessed to have been asked to do it.  To tell you the truth it was a last minute whirlwind experience that I basically only had 2 days to plan for.  I had been in contacts with TLC for a while about me pitching a wedding for the show and each time it fell through and then 2 days before Kristin & Michael’s wedding they confirmed everything and I said yes!  We had cameras in our studio for 3 days straight and let me tell you that is quite an experience.  I had no clue what they would use and how they would edit me and my shop, but overall I was really happy with how it turned out!

0099

It was such a pleasure to work on Kristin & Michael’s wedding and I could not of asked for a better couple for this show.  I was actually already booked for their wedding when I was approached for the show and when they said they were up for it too I was so happy.  We basically made their cake bigger & better than we had planned it to be and even threw in a groom’s cake (which I will talk about later).

This wedding definitely wouldn’t have been the same without the incredibly talented and sweet Angel Swanson of Events of Love & Splendor who did the wedding planning & design!  She made my job so easy!

Once I met with Kristin I was so inspired by her and her creativity.  She designed and made the invitations herself and I have to say they are some of the most gorgeous ones I have seen.  She pulled such inspiration from the location of Rancho Las Lomas and really wanted to pull in the spanish tiles that they had there, spanish style lace, and of course her grandmother’s vintage buttons (if you watched the show)!

0004

0083

0084

We made silicone molds of her grandmother’s buttons, handpainted the tile design on the cake, took the tile pattern and used it for a depression & impression on the cake, made a giant sugar flower anenome flower since that was her favorite and finally lined the cake with spanish lace.  This cake was certainly one of my most daring designs that pushed the envelope, but I was truly proud of it once it all came together.  I LOVED how Michael captured their reaction when they first saw their wedding cake!

0110

0111

Of course we also had do to a full on dessert bar for them as well!  Angel did a fabulous backdrop for us that really made it all pop!  We made custom sugar cookies with Kristin’s printed designs, cake lollipops, mini cupcakes, mini key lime pies, and chocolate chunk cookies

One interesting aspect of the wedding and show is that I was actually asked to make a second cake that would be featured as well, so Kristin wanted to surprise Mike with a groom’s cake.  Kristin and Mike love their dog Baxter like a child and he was even a part of their wedding party.  Kristin thought Mike would flip if I made a 3D dog for him and so that was my mission. There was actually quite a lot of drama that occurred with me making Baxter (which would’ve made for great TV), but I guess they ran out of time for the episode so that is why he didn’t make it on the show.  Nonetheless here is the cute little guy!

Again I loved seeing their reaction!

Thanks so much to my incredible team at the shop…we all know I could never do anything with you!  A special thanks to my mom who keeps me sane, encourages me daily, gives me the best advice a girl could ask for, and is the most amazing business partner ever!
