A Proposal & Wedding

Monday, January 25th, 2010

Well a lot of fun things have been happening at the shop recently!  A few months back the sweetest guy ever, Devin, emailed me asking if I was possibly up for him proposing to his girlfriend Kristen at our shop.  He said Kristen was a big fan of the blog and lover of sweets like me, so of course without thinking twice I said a big YES!  Time went by and Devin kept me in the loop with his plans of them flying to California and his thoughts on how to propose.  He designed the gorgeous ring himself and wanted me to make a cake with some of the design elements incorporated into it.  We set the cake up with the rest of our daily treats and had a sign made for it that said “Turn Around Kristen”!  When they walked in the door I was a little nervous that I would mess up their special moment, but thankfully everything went as planned…Kristen had absolutely no idea of what was going on and we chatted for about 5 minutes before she even glanced at the desserts.  Then I tried to describe the treats and point her in the direction of the special cake…she was still not catching on…so finally I asked her if she could read me what “flavor” the cake was. Instead she told me the sign read “Turn Around Kristen” and that she was Kristen, SO I told her to turn around and as you can guess the rest is history!

Here are some photos of the gorgeous ring that he sent me for inspiration…Kristen is one lucky lady!

Thank you so much Devin and Kristen for letting us share in your special moment!  I am so happy for you both and wish you only the best!

This next wedding was such a pleasure to do also!  The bride, Kerri, was so much fun to work with and really jumped into helping with the design and set up.  Kerri & her mother made all of the cake stands by gluing plates onto cups, bowls, and candlesticks and bought matching platters to go along with them.  I love it!  She also made the backdrop and the signs too!

I am finally getting time to make more sugar flowers lately and had a great time making this orange ranunculus flower.

They wanted their guests to have lots of yummy mini desserts too so we made mini candy bar cupcakes, mini lemon cupcakes with fresh raspberries, vanilla cake lollipops,  chocolate espresso cake lollipops, and mini chocolate peanut butter pies.

An Eventful Post

Friday, January 15th, 2010

Well as you probably know these kind of posts come up every couple months when I have so many small events that I want to feature, so I cram them all together into one large, mega post!  There is a lot of eye candy coming up, so definitely let me know what’s your favorite!  First off I recently got to do a wedding with Jesi Haack Weddings & Sarah K Chen at The Marvimon House (which I LOVE).  I met Jessica, the bride, at The White Dress in Cornona Del Mar when we did a wedding showcase there and we definitely hit it off.  She told me her and her fiance, Curt, wanted to have an out-of-the-box kind of wedding cake.  The wanted sleek, modern, and rustic all at the same time and threw out the idea of a square cake that looked like a real block of wood, SO that is just what we did.  They had goodies on the dessert table from friends, family, and local bakeries, but we were really happy to do their special wedding cake.  Their wedding was to say the least AMAZING…it has been featured all over the wedding blog world, so I am pretty sure you have seen the photos already, but if not here is just a little sneak peak into their special day.  To see all the photos from their wedding check out this post! Thanks for the great photos Sarah!

This next cake was for a baby shower and they had an owl invitation they wanted me to grab inspiration from.  She wanted the cake to be simple and modern with some fun accents.  They were also kind enough to send me some personal photos that they took at the shower…thanks!

Now these two deadly cookies are my main addiction every day in the bakery!  My sole mission is trying to not grab one from the front of the store and eat it, but sadly I fail often!  Chocolate Chunk Cookies & White Chocolate Oatmeal Cranberry Cookies are in the shop daily, so if you are near by definitely stop in!

Well hopefully I didn’t tempt you guys too much and ruin your diet for the day…if I did, I apologize!

Melissa & Bryan’s Wedding…To Die For!

Monday, January 11th, 2010

Melissa & Bryan were some of the first weddings clients that I booked back when I started that I KNEW would be amazing and I have to toot my own horn and say that I was right…it was AMAZING!  Their attention to detail was fabulous and their sense of style really showed through in everything from the flowers to the dresses.  Of course a wedding this gorgeous takes a whole team to pull off…Courtney from Joyful Weddings & Events did such a great job with every detail, Amelia & Justin Lyon killed the photos (definitely some of my favorites EVER), Nicole DeAnne made Melissa look stunning on her special day, and Kristin from The Treasured Petal blew me away with the flowers!  Rancho Las Lomas is one of my favorite venues to work at and from the photos you can see it is a lovely backdrop for a wedding!  Well now that you know how this beautiful wedding came together lets look at some photos!

A Regal Affair

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

2009 seemed to fly by so fast that I found myself with so many weddings that I still needed to blog about!  This next wedding is straight out of a fairytale and the photos show just how stunning this couple looked on their wedding day!  Jennifer and Mike had the help of Ashley Powell, of Agape Planning, to pull off their gorgeous wedding.  I loved the color scheme they choose and found the pops of gold, red, and turquoise worked perfectly together.  The wedding was held at The Nixon Library and  White Haute Photography captured some lovely photos that really showed off the beauty of this couple.

Spanish Flamenco Style Wedding

Friday, November 20th, 2009

I have been wanting to post about this wedding for such a long time now, but had to wait until the fabulous spread came out in Utterly Engaged which is an amazing wedding resource for any bride or vendor.  I was so happy to be featured in the online magazine and am glad I can share it with you now!  This wedding had such an fabulous team behind it because Aaron & Barbara hand picked their wedding industry favorites and since Aaron is a fabulous wedding photographer they knew exactly who they wanted working on their wedding!  This was the first time I had the pleasure of working with Christina from Simply Modern Weddings and I was blown away with her attention to detail and overall design concept.  She is not only talented, but one of the sweetest people ever!  I was also lucky enough to have Gabriel Ryan Photography documenting the beautiful day.  I love Gabriel & Carlie so much and am always overjoyed when I find out they are going to be shooting my desserts.  Kristin from The Treasured Petal matched the floral design perfectly with the Spanish Flamenco theme…love her!  Those are just a few of the talented vendors at the wedding…definitely check out the end of the post to get the rest of the scoop!  So without further ado here are the gorgeous photos!!!

The wedding took place at Casa Romantica, which is located in San Clemente, CA.

I think this is one of my favorite dessert tables so far!  I love how the linen and the cake match and the simplistic, clean look is my style completely.

We made the lace pattern on the cake with sugar paste and then accented it with a gorgeous red dahlia sugar flower.  Sara did a fabulous job on this flower!

A Very Vintage Halloween Party

Friday, October 30th, 2009

This past Tuesday night I had the pleasure of working with some of the very best in the wedding industry as we put on a Halloween Bash!  Since I am a little raced on time today (weddings & Halloween treats still need to be finished) I am borrowing Carissa’s, from JL Designs, info from her site!  Here’s how she describes the fabulous night…

“When yelena johnson of the stylish soiree and i decided we wanted to throw a fun halloween party for about 40-50 people it started off very small scale…but once we started tweeting it, the guest count quickly grew to over 150 people! and we just figured the more the better! let them come… :)

The initial design concept was kind of a playful vintage but as we got closer to the event and we kept finding new inspirations, it definitely morphed into something a bit more gothic, a bit more victorian and a bit darker…for the florals and decor pieces, i knew i wanted to go with all muted, lifeless colors…nothing bright or vibrant…and almost all of the vessels, candlesticks, platters, gravy boats, frames, mirrors, etc. were thrifted in order to keep an authentic, vintage feel…

I REALLY loved how everything turned out and just hours before the party began, the clouds rolled in, the wind got CRAZY (hello blackouts!) and it made for a perfect, eerie halloween setting…”
The incredible photos are the the uber talented Meg Perotti!  They are beyond gorgeous!  Thanks you, thanks you!

I think that Carissa & Yelena did a fabulous job creating the perfect look for the party and thanks so much to Carissa’s assistant, Darci, and Jesi from Jesi Haack Weddings for all their help as well!
I had a great time creating the dessert menu for this party…lots of yummy fall treats!  I had also just created a new cake for a photo shoot with the help of my sister and Heather Kent (who did the amazing hand painting on the cake) and so I thought it was a perfect fit for the table!

The desserts included new pumpkin cupcakes with cinnamon cream cheese frosting and salted caramel, Halloween vintage postcard sugar cookies, coconut cupcakes, pumpkin cake lollipops, chocolate mousse dessert shot glasses, red velvet cake lollipops, pumpkin caramel cheesecakes with a gingersnap crust, and coconut cake lollipops.
