Bows for Blake – Part 2

Wednesday, June 5th, 2013

I have to say that I felt a little bit of pressure to pull off quite a dessert extravaganza for Blake’s 1st birthday party, but once we came up with a theme and my mind started going it became a lot of fun to dream up what I wanted for my little girl’s special day!  My amazing sister made the fabulous bow backdrop (with help from my cousin Kandyce too) and I have to say I was in love with it!  I added some gold dots and a golden “B” and that was the backdrop!  I also added plain and glitter gold dots to accent the table as well.   I have to thank my amazing team at Sweet & Saucy Shop since they literally brought all of my ideas to life and blew me away as always!

I tried to incorporate the bow theme into most of the desserts so for the salted caramel macarons we hand painted a gold bow on top.

I love tiny details so we added mini bows to the round rice krispy treats.

I had too many ideas for her cake and couldn’t commit to just one main cake design so I decided to do three cakes instead…I guess that is one perk of owning a bakeshop!  For the first one we did a gold glitter fondant with a mint and white polka dot large bow!

Next we did mini salted caramel tarts and accented them with mini pink chocolate bows!

I have a love affair with panna cotta so we did vanilla panna cotta shot glasses with a raspberry coulis on top!  Love these little spoons I believe I got from Shop Sweet Lulu too!

A customer fav and mini too are our Red Velvet cake lollipops that we dipped in white chocolate, add mint green modeling chocolate dots and a pink bow.  I also had fun using a variety of pink and gold stands as well from our collection and a lot of them are up for sale on our supply store Sweet & Saucy Supply!

I am so excited about my recent collaboration with Little Cat Design Co as she creates the cutest cake and dessert toppers out there!  She crafted this fabulous topper for Blake, as well as the mini wooden bows on the large cupcakes and the #1 on her smash cake!  We can’t wait until we start selling Katherine’s designs in our stores as well as online, which hopefully should be done in the next month or two.

For the main cake I wanted to keep it not too busy since the topper was the main show stopper so we did a simple pretty pink bow, large gold dot garland, and also crimped the edges of the tiers to add a little more detail.

One of my favorite parts of the whole table was the cake below!  I dreamed up the idea of having these bows painted all over the cake once I saw a print like it on pinterest and Kyong brought it to life perfectly!

We made some large strawberry cupcakes with chocolate ganache filling and dressed them up with ruffle frosting, bow toppers and gold cupcake holders.

At almost all my friend’s parties they always request our sugar cookies so I knew I needed to have some cute bow cookies on the menu for the party…

Last, but not least our ever popular mini key lime pies…cute as ever!

We are so blessed to live life with such a great community of people and so many of our friends have kiddos around Blake’s same age which always proves to be loads of fun when we get together!

My sweet sister made these adorable headband favors for the little girls at the party.  You can check out her shop on etsy at SaraRaeShop

Love my girlfriends!!!

Of course Blake needed a smash cake as well.  We did a simple mint buttercream cake with a cute little bow, polka dots, and another adorable topper from Little Cat Design Co

I had a feeling my little girl would attack the cake (she is a girl after my own heart) and she did exactly that!  She got right in there and we all loved every moment!

Of course she got to the moment of cake overload and clearly was DONE!

This is such a sweet photo below since both Angel and Christina had their sweet babies in March as well with me and we have enjoyed sharing so many precious moments of motherhood together.

This is the best photo we could get of all the kids…this day was clearly tons of fun and we were so blessed by everyone that came!

Cakes I have yet to share…

Thursday, April 11th, 2013

Time seriously goes by so fast and I can’t believe how many cakes I have yet to share with you guys that we did last year!  This post is a gathering of various photo shoots and weddings we were blessed to be a part of…hope you enjoy!

Most of the cakes below were shot by the amazing Jen Huang!  Her photos are simply gorgeous and I was so lucky to work with her on this shoot…some of my favorite cakes came out of it!  Major props to Kyong who always brings my visions to life when it comes to cakes!

I just love sugar flowers! My sister and I teamed up for this next cake and the turquoise sugar flowers below as well and I really adore how they turned out!

Bold and intense patterns below…

Simple, but cute!

Hand painting on cakes is one of my favorites new trends…

Color blocking is always fun on cakes these days…

Why not send your message through a cake design!

Another fun pattern that came to life perfectly on a cake.

Inspired by a moroccan theme we came up with golden bronze tiles and turquoise sugar flowers.

Might be one of my favorite cakes of all time below…I absolutely am smitten with the flowing sugar ribbons!

This next cake we did for a shoot with Mark Brooke Photography! We again used the hand painting technique and then added sugar roses.

Lastly these next two real weddings were so dreamy looking I had to add them to the post as well.  The cake isn’t our original design (the bride requested it from a photo she saw), but I love it and think it fits perfectly with the decor!

I always love working with Found Vintage Rentals since we get to use the cutest tables for our displays then.  Below is a fun set up  of a wedding last year!

I also wanted to let you know of two new classes we have added this month!  I will be teaching another fondant basics class since our first one went so well!  The class will be Sunday April 21st 3-6pm at the LB location.  You will learn how to cover a square and round cake, our tricks of the trade with fondant & stacking cakes, how to crimp, use stencils, bows, basic molds, and more.  It is $350 for the class which includes the supplies and there are only a couple more spots open. The other class my sister will be teaching and it’s Sunday April 28th 2-6pm at the LB location.  This class will be on the Dahlia & Poppy Sugar Flowers!  It is $215 and has a couple spots open as well.  Please email or call the LB shop to reserve your spot today!  info@sweetandsaucyshop.com

Valentine’s Day Photoshoot

Monday, February 11th, 2013

I was so happy to be a part of this fun children’s Valentine’s Day photo shoot at Granola Babies!  Lyndsey from Jack & Lola Photography took all the great photos and my sister, Sara from SaraRaeShop provided all the headbands, and the cute bow ties are from Haddon Co.!

Sara’s headbands are basically to die for!

Gotta love little ones shoving their faces with treats!

Guess he liked it…

Anthropologie + Oh Joy

Thursday, September 13th, 2012

If you would of asked me a couple years back if I ever thought I would be doing desserts for Anthropologie and Oh Joy I would’ve said “No way”…well guess what?!?  I was lucky enough to be a part of such a fun event that was held at Anthropologie and you bet I was smiling all night long!  Joy, from Oh Joy, was the main attraction for their new line of Petite clothing and it was so fun finally getting to meet her in person!

The lovely Bonnie Tsang took that fabulous photo of Joy…love her work!  The event was such a success and for anyone that knows me I am obsessed with Anthropologie and shop there now-stop, so you know I enjoyed every minute!

I can’t thank Kristin, from Kristin Eldridge Photography, enough for these gorgeous photos of my desserts!  She seriously always blows me away when she photographs my stuff…love every photo!

For the desserts we decided to do some crowd pleasers and set them out on some of my favorite stands…vintage peach & clear glass, jadeite and milk stands!  First up always a popular one the mini key lime pies!

Mini cheesecakes with fresh raspberries and salted caramel french macarons.

Strawberry french macarons…

Our decadent brownies cut into triangles for a fun presentation.

Our #1 selling cupcake in Newport Beach…S’mores!

We had such a great time at this event!  Thanks so much for stopping by the blog!

Sweet & Saucy Shop Newport Beach

Saturday, September 8th, 2012

Well I can’t believe that it has been 3 1/2 months since we have been up and running in Newport Beach!  We can’t thank everyone enough for their support and love for our shop!  We have been overjoyed with the response that the community has given us and love meeting all of our new customers and also our loyal customers that have driven all the way to support us at our new location.

Everyone that knows me knows I LOVE photos and so I was so excited and blessed when Aaron Dieppa offered to shoot the new shop for me.  I was lucky enough to be a part of his wedding celebration a few years ago and now am so excited to see their family grow since they have a little one on the way.  I was so excited when I saw the photos of the shop he had taken and can’t thank him enough!

My Uncle Dan has always been such a big supporter of our business and we can’t thank him enough for the gorgeous signage he always does for us…you can check him out at Instant Signs.  I also have to give the biggest thanks to my amazing Daddy (Master Plumbing) who worked SO many hours getting the bakery shop ready for health code inspections (which is always a nightmare) and doing basically a huge construction project…you are the best!

One of the comments I always get all the time at the new shop is how much everyone loves the decor and of course I can’t stop smiling.  I always let everyone know that all the praise goes to Jeni from Found Vintage Rentals.  I told her the vision my mother and I had for the shop and she really brought it to life and we can’t sing her praises enough!

Sweet & Saucy Shop Newport Beach: Opening Tomorrow!!!

Tuesday, June 12th, 2012

First off  THANK YOU so much for all the support and love everyone has given us along the years!  We have been so blessed and appreciate our loyal customers more than you will ever know.  We are so excited to be finally opening our second location…Sweet & Saucy Shop @ the Crystal Cove Promenade in Newport Coast!  This has been a long journey that has taken a ton of work, but together with my family and wonderful staff we have pulled together and will be opening tomorrow, Wednesday June 13th!  A big thank you to my parents who have worked more hours than I could ever count and are the best business partners a girl could ask for.  I also have to thank my amazing husband Tim for all his love, support, and hard work too…without him I would’ve never made it through this crazy time period with a newborn.  To my little Blake, you have made each morning a joy to wake up (even if I’ve only slept a little bit and am exhausted)!  You are the biggest blessing the Lord has ever given me and I am so excited that I have had this fun time to share with you by my side (literally) the whole time!  We have such a fabulous staff as well and are so happy to go along this journey with them!  The Lord has blessed our business so much and we are so grateful and happy to now share this new chapter with everyone!  We would love for you to come out and visit us any day as in Newport Beach as we are open 7 days a week Sun-Thurs. 11-8pm and Fri-Sat 11-9pm.

Another reason you definitely want to come in is to see the gorgeous furniture that Jeni from Found Vintage Rentals furnished our bakery with.  I knew she would be the perfect person to work with in designing the new look for our bakery and she has definitely outdone herself…I love everything!!!

So without further ado check out some photos from the beginning of the process to the end!
