French Patisserie Inspired Shoot

Wednesday, October 13th, 2010

First let me start off by saying that this might be one of my favorites shoots I have EVER done!  Everything is pure dreaminess and I really have to thank Melissa from The Loveliest Day for inviting me to be a part of it!  I had the pleasure of making Melissa’s wedding cake about a year ago and now she has turned her passion for weddings & design into a business!  I would definitely recommend any new brides to check out Melissa & her gorgeous work…she is a joy to work with!  Below Melissa describes her thoughts about the shoot…

The inspiration behind this patisserie brunch bridal shower shoot was Ladurée and the other tea and pastry salons of Paris. For this shoot we created a dessert table and a tea bar, both ideas that can be easily re-created! The ribbon curtains, which hung behind the dessert table, were inspired by an image of the gift packaging station at Ladurée. Rolls of pastel ribbons cascaded down the wall, ready to be snipped off and used to tie up a gorgeous package of fresh macarons. In between the ribbon curtains I hung a vintage window pane, which I painted white. To me, the window helped bring in the feeling of a Parisian storefront.”

I of course have to thank Ashley from Ashley Rose Photography for making me simply swoon over these images.  When I found out Ashely was the one taking the photos I jumped with joy and then when I saw them for the first time I nearly scream they were so gorgeous…thanks a million Ashely!

I truly had a wonderful time dreaming up the desserts for this shoot. I wanted to stay away from fondant for once and really play around with beautiful colored buttercreams for the cakes.  It was so fun accenting them with french macarons, fresh fruit, and whimsical piping!  Instead of traditional cream puffs and eclairs I thought it would be fun to dip them in colored chocolates so they looked light and airy.

For the mini cupcakes I made mini french macarons and used them as a fun accent on the frosting.

I do have to say this is one of my favorite cakes…I just adore the mini madeline cookies on top!

Melissa describes the decor a little more…

“I wanted to include some fresh flowers, but opted to keep it simple. I displayed the flowers in galvanized metal pails to mimic the look of street side flower shops in Paris. I also added a few single stems and mini bouquets here and there for a bit of added charm.”

“Jane of Olive Hue Paper Goods created some darling favor boxes. Perfect for guests to take home a few macarons or a colorful cream puff! The boxes were topped with some vintage mother of pearl buttons from my personal collection. You can add buttons like we did, or any other kind of accent you wish. The box has a lovely pattern, so it will also look great without additional accents if that’s the look you prefer! No matter what you choose, your guests will love these adorable favor boxes!”

Winter Wonderland Photo Shoot

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

One thing I love about the wedding industry is that we get to do photoshoots! Photoshoots are a time where we can push the envelope, be as creative as we want, and really let our personal style and design come through!  From the first moment that I heard Jesi Haack, from Jesi Haack Weddings and Carissa, from JL Designs, were doing a photoshoot that was going to be shot by Jessica Claire I knew I had to be in on it!  Jessica wanted to do a winter wonderland style photoshoot and Jesi & Carissa really came through with a fun, new, and very creative styled shoot.  I love all of the scarves and pops of color.  To get more details on the shoot definitely check out Jessica Claire’s Website!

One fun tidbit of info is that the gorgeous models are actually friends of mine! Darren & Alex did an amazing job & looked stunning!

The table setup out in the middle of the snow was just dreamy and Jane, from Olive Hue Paper, created such fun and creative invitations!  You can always count on Jesi Haack to find such great accent pieces, like these chairs!

For the cake I wanted to go simplistic with a pop of color, but I also wanted some movement on the cake, so I decided to go with petal tiers instead of round or square, to give the cake an interested shape. Then I put a grey pearl border around each tier and accented it with a large open purple peony!  I was really in love with how this sugar flower came out and thought that it was bold enough to stand on its own.
