Chanel Photoshoot

Monday, May 24th, 2010

I was seriously blown away when I first saw these images that Jasmine Star took at a recent photoshoot I did with a bunch of FABULOUS ladies from the wedding industry.  The lovely Jaclyne of Heavenly Blooms asked me to be a part of the shoot and I was so excited once I heard the design for it.  She planned a flawless photoshoot along with the help from the talented Amanda from In the Now.  So many wonderful vendors came together to make this photoshoot such a gorgeous experience…thanks for letting me be a small part of it!  The look for the day was a Chanel inspired bridal shower & I’m sure it won’t disappoint you! To check out more design details about the shoot check out our post on Style Me Pretty!

Recently I have had the pleasure of doing a lot of amazing photoshoots, but sadly sometimes I can squeeze it all in, so when they asked it I could do a mini dessert bar as well as the cake I unfortunately had to pass since I already was booked up that week.  I was so happy when I heard that Jay’s Catering was going to do the dessert bar though and I have to say that they knocked it out of the park!  Their macaroon tower & Parisian style desserts were so dreamy!

For the cake my sister and I wanted to mimic the style of old mosser glass cake stands & platters and accented it with jewels & buttons inspired by Chanel.  I also created a gorgeous pink sugar flower garden rose for the top of the cake, but sadly it got broken on delivery, so instead we placed ruffle flowers at the top of the cake. Overall I still really liked how the cake turned out, but it was a little sad to have my flower I worked so hard on not get photographed.

High School Sweethearts

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

I have definitely been waiting a while to be able to post this wedding!  Right from the start I was super excited to work with this particular bride & groom because I actually had the pleasure of going to high school with both of them!  I was student body president and Ashley was president of her freshman class…to say the least we hit it off perfectly the first time we met during student council meetings.  My husband even ended up playing soccer with her husband Tommy too!  I absolutely love being able to make wedding cakes for people I know and help them celebrate their special day!  Ashley & her mother have amazing style and are incredibly gorgeous, so I knew the wedding would be one for the books…and boy was I right! They hired on an amazing team of vendors including Brooke Keegan, as the wedding planner, Aaron Delesie, who took the amazing photos, and Annette Gomez did the incredible floral decor!

Since this wedding will inspire and probably leave you wanting to know more I highly recommend checking out Style Me Pretty’s feature as well which gives lots and lots of details!  And just a warning…Ashley will most definitely make you jealous of her beauty so beware!

For the wedding cake Ashley wanted something elegant and dreamy!  She loved the idea of having sugar pearls and sugar crystals on the cake and her mother also found a vintage bride & groom cake topper, which I adored!  We decided on add one large sugar peony and let the cake rest of a simple clear cake stand, as if it was floating on nothing at all.

I wish Ashley & Tommy all the blessings in the whole and absolutely love that they live right by my bakery so they can pop in and say hi once in a while!

Twilight Photo Shoot!

Friday, February 19th, 2010

Being able to collaborate on photo shoots with other talented people in the wedding industry is definitely one of my favorite aspects of my job!  I find that they give me a chance to push the envelope and try some new techniques and designs out.  This photo shoot was definitely an experience like that.  When Lina Wallace and Heather Ham told me about their plans for a Twilight inspired photo shoot I knew I couldn’t turn it down and then to top it off they said Meg Perotti was photographing it, so I knew the photos would be gorgeous!  Lina and Heather definitely thought this shoot through and have great back stories to all of their design and details.  They wanted to do their interpretation of what they thought Twilight’s wedding look might be like…we had all seen the darker side play out in photo shoots, but they wanted to do a lighter feel to it and do more of a forest, earthy look to it.  I have to say they did AMAZING!  Here ares some words from them describing the look…

We mainly took our inspiration from the fourth book in The Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer, Breaking Dawn, in which the two characters Bella and Edward get married. The wedding was described as taking place at the house where Edward and his family live in the woods surrounded by all white flowers. We also took inspiration from the iconic cover of the first book where hands are holding an apple. Apples were used as escort cards, candleholders, a cake topper, and our signature beverage, hot apple cider.

For our ceremony setup we had floating rose heads and crystals hanging from a tree with a simple white rose petal aisle.

For the bouquet, we used peonies, roses, lisianthus, dusty miller and bluporum tied with a simple white ribbon that had the words “so the lion fell in love with the lamb” written by our calligrapher, Calligraphy Katrina.

For the cake I knew I wanted to have some hand painting, but also some other 3D elements that popped off the cake.  My friend Heather did the painting part for me and then we made sugar molds to accent the side of the cake and also stuck on real lace pieces as well for texture.  And to top off the cake I thought a hand painted silver apple would be the perfect addition!

For the favors, we had several options including buttons with “Team Bella” and “Team Edward”, as well as miniature green trees and pashmina wraps in coordinating colors.

For our main tablescape we used all white flowers (roses, lisianthus and hydrangea) as well as some greenery (dusty miller and bluporum and a few succulents). We incorporated apples as candleholders as well as using floating candles in glass containers and silver candelabras. We had a lace table runner made by Sashes of love placed down the center of the table. We had menus made by our calligrapher with each guest’s name (Bella, Edward, Alice, Emmett, Esme, Carlisle, Rosalie and Jasper). We used a chocolate brown satin ribbon with a crystal broach at each place setting.

We also decided to do a “Luxe for Less” look to show brides how they could take a high-end tablescape and interpret it into something more reasonable for those concerned with their budget. Instead of the rented wooden tables we used a standard linen in camel. We used wooden folding chairs in an antique finish and used a single candelabra with a few floral centerpieces for a similar effect as the main tablescape.

We wanted to bring Bella and Edward’s wedding to life similar to how it is described in the book. We’ve seen other inspirations that are very gothic and dark using reds and blacks, but we wanted to show our interpretation of what their wedding would really look like with delicate, light, airy details.

Lots of Announcements!

Friday, June 5th, 2009

Lots of exciting things have been happening lately, which accounts for the lack of blogging…so sorry!  First off I have been waiting to announce this for quite some time…drumroll please…my new website is up!  I have to give a major shout out to my hubby @ 24Medium and one my best girlfriends Karrie @ karriepykedesigns for the wonderful site.  They took my idea and ran with it and it is more than I could’ve ever dreamed of!  I also have to thank all the wonderful vendors that I have worked with along the way…they made all the difference in the world!  The blog is the next in line for an update, so watch out!

My hubby also persuaded me to join the Twitter World, so if you are on there too you can follow me and my crazy updates!

This past week I also got the biggest shock of my life when Style Me Pretty, which if you don’t know is basically the biggest wedding blog out there, featured my cakes!  Thanks so much Abby!  My cakes would never had made it on there without the help of Carissa from JL Designs, who designed the tablescapes, and Jasmine Star, who took the gorgeous photos!  You girls are the best…I am way too lucky to work with you! The rest of the gorgeous photos will be blogged soon so keep your eye out for them!

I also wanted to let everyone know to check out Jasmine’s fabulous blog so you can see all the gorgeous photos she took of my desserts that I brought to her event last night!  She captures things in a way I could never…thank you so much!

And last, but not least are some photos of the dessert studio to keep you up on the process!  The electrical, plumbing, and walls are all up and ready to go!  The sinks and hood just came in and next week the flooring and painting gets done…then it is time to MOVE IN!!!  Can’t wait!

Thanks for checking in!  Hopefully I will be blogging a lot more this week since I have SO many photos to share with you!

My New Website & Cake Designs

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

Lots of exciting things have been happening for me these last couple months and so I do apologize for the lack of posts, but I am happy to share my news with all of you!  I am so ecstatic to announce that my new business website is finally finished!  There are still some things that need to be added, but overall I am really happy with it and couldn’t wait any longer to share it with you.  My new site is Sweet & Saucy Shop and I would love for you to check it out and give me any feedback you have. My sweet husband, Tim, and one of my best friends, Karrie, created my site for me and I am so blessed to have their love and support for my business.  If you are looking for a great blog or website definitely check out their sites…24 Medium & Karrie Pyke Designs. Some other exciting news happened this week…I was featured in Karrie’s wedding photos that were published on one of the top wedding blogs Style Me Pretty!!!  I absolutely love Style Me Pretty and have always dreamed of having my products featured on their site.

I have also been working on some new cake designs this past week and will continue to do so this coming week.  I feel like I go through periods where I am really into cookies, then cupcakes, and finally now cakes. I definitely get bored doing the same thing over and over again, which is why I love having the flexibility to try new things.  So here are some photos of some recent cakes I made.  I would love to hear which one you like the most and why, so please drop me a comment and share your thoughts.  I tried some new techniques while decorating these cakes and will be sharing more of the details with you in future posts, but just to clarify some questions I know I will be asked I will share some of the details now.  Well, here come the photos!

No, I did not hand pipe this…this cake was done with cake stencils, which I absolutely love!  I will do a more detailed post on how this process is done in the near future and give all my tips and techniques!

I really do like simplistic cakes that have one focal point, so I chose a gorgeous dahlia to be the star this time.

For this cake I had Karrie design some graphic flower images for me and I printed them on frosting sheets and then applied them to the cake.  Very modern, graphic, and simplistic I think.  Again, I will be doing a more detailed post on this technique in the future.

And for this last cake I got inspired when I went to my local flower shop and saw this lovely, rustic branch and these button mums. I think this four tier type of cake works well with it too.

Before I end my post I wanted to share 6 random facts about myself with you since I was tagged by The Cupcakery…

1) I was actually going to be a school teacher and had almost finished my whole degree when I decided to switch careers and go into pastry school.

2) I have been dying to travel more and can’t wait until I get to go to Europe again…I would love to live in Florence for a couple months!

3) I am a Farmer’s Market fan and love checking out any and every one!

4) I grew up with foster brothers and sisters and now my sister has three gorgeous foster daughters that she is about to adopt…I definitely was blessed with inspiring parents.

5) My husband is the one that convinced me to start a blog and I will be forever thankful to him for that.

6) I actually knew my husband in jr. high, but we didn’t start dating until right after high school and then lasted through college and the rest is history…

Well, hope you enjoyed the random facts and don’t forget to check out all the links at the top!
