Wedding Season has Begun!!!

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

Boy have we been busy, busy, busy at the shop!  Two weeks ago I had 8 weddings in one weekend, this weekend we have 6, and next weekend we have 8 again!  With that being said, I have LOTS of fun photos to share with you and I hope you enjoy them!

This first cake might be one of my favorites yet!  I recently hired on a new employee, Kyong, who interned with us at the shop for 2 months & right from the start I saw how talented she was at cake decorating.  She paints flawlessly & it truly has become one of my favorite touches to add to wedding cakes!

We decided to add sugar orchids to the top of the cake and Sara did an amazing job with them!

I made a large sugar ruffle at the bottom and it was all finished!

The next wedding cake I took inspiration from their wedding invitation and did the circle pattern all over the cake!  I loved it!

We then accented the cake with ruffly style anenome flowers!  Overall I loved the color combo and design!

They also wanted a lot of fun mini desserts & I have to say that their dessert tags the bride got were beyond adorable!

I have also had the pleasure of doing a lot of fun groom’s cakes lately.  This next cake was my first football helmet & I was pleasantly surprised with how it turned out!  The whole thing is cake & then we used bendable pipe to make the front of the mask.

The wedding cake that went with this groom’s cake was equally fun!  She wanted to incorporate her color scheme of copper & sage, her damask pattern, and the orchid’s & butterflies that were going to be at her wedding…and this is what we came up with!

Everything on the cake is made out of sugar!

Lastly we had the pleasure of doing another small, yet intricate cake for a recent wedding in which I just fell in love with the design.  The handpainting & sugar flower definitely make it one of a kind!  The pattern was taken off of the ring bearer pillow & I think it transferred beautifully onto the cake.

Recent Treats!

Friday, April 9th, 2010

Well, exciting things have been happening!  One in particular is that my husband and I just bought a house!  I can’t believe it actually happened  and as I sit here in my house blogging away I have to pinch myself!  I am definitely blessed and so happy in my new home!  Photos will soon to follow once the decorating is finished!

We have been very busy at the shop too, so I thought I would do a post with lots of recent projects we’ve been doing!  Hope you enjoy!  First up, are these adorable Twilight cupcakes!  I have been so lucky to have very talented interns at my shop and one intern, Kyong, has blown me away many times with her attention to detail and creativity.  She made all the decorations for these cupcakes and I thought they turned out great!

Weddings & Bridal Showers

Sunday, June 7th, 2009

Well, I am trying to stick to my promise and keep the blogging to an all-time high this week, since I haven’t been blogging too much lately.  This post is all about LOVE…I have been meeting with lots of brides lately and recently we did some fun bridal showers and a wedding cake with mini desserts too.  These first photos are of the wedding…the bride wanted to incorporate lots of color, her love of butterflies, and their gorgeous monogram that they featured on their invitations.  This is the design we came up with!

The bride and groom also wanted to treat their guests to an assortment of mini desserts and wanted them all plated on one delicious table spread.  The mini desserts included banana cream pies, coconut cream pies, pumpkin caramel gingersnap cheesecakes, carrot cake and red velvet cake lollipops, and lavender lemon bars.

These last photos are from the two bridal showers.  The first shower had the color scheme of yellow, teal, and white.  They ordered a variety of cupcakes and 75 bride and groom silhouette cookies…sadly I didn’t take any pictures of the cookies, but you can check out my previous post on them here.

This final cake was made to match the shower invitations, which had a cute, modern look to it.  The cake was chocolate cake with chocolate ganache and espresso, kahlua cream cheese frosting.

Thanks for taking a look at them!

Sugar Flowers & Bridal Showers

Friday, March 27th, 2009

Well, as you know my sister and I are trying to learn how to make all sorts of sugar flowers.  We have become quite obsessed with them and my credit card bill definitely proves it!  I have only actually taken one class from Ron Ben-Israel on how to make sweet pea sugar flowers and the rest we have learned through books and watching videos from Nicholas Lodge.  Sugar flowers are very tedious and require a lot of patience (and tools), but they are also one of the more artistic aspects of cake decorating.  The cake was buttermilk cake with white chocolate mousse buttercream and fresh strawberries…yummy! We made it for a recent bridal shower and were very excited to put our sugar flower knowledge to the test and create a gorgeous cake for the bride-to-be!

We had such a great time making these peonies, berries, parrot tulips, and butterflies!  Definitely let me know which one you liked the best!
