Sweet Stuff Wedding with Jesi Haack Designs

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011

My friend Jesi Haack is quite the wedding designer and this next wedding shows just that!  She can take two people and really pull parts of them into the actual wedding design, so their big day is all about them and their loves!  This wedding is all about fun, frilly, and a little crazy too!  Mark Brooke Photography took the amazing photos!

Jesi made a fun backdrop for our dessert table!  The bride wanted a mini wedding cake with their sketch on it and then two side cakes, one for bride & one of the groom!

Smog Shop Wedding

Monday, May 9th, 2011

I absolutely LOVE working with Angle Swanson from Love and Splendor on weddings!  Her clients always have such amazing design and are equally as sweet!  This wedding that we got to do at The Smog Shoppe was so much fun.  We did an eclectic style dessert bar with some natural woodsy elements and then even got to make a crazy groom’s cake too…

Last, but not least the crazy groom’s cake we promised.  The clients both shared a love of collecting these Japanese toy bears that come in all different designs and for the groom’s cake the bride surprised her husband with the wood style Be@rbrick Doll done in cake!  You can check out the real doll here.

Intimate Wedding for Two

Sunday, January 16th, 2011

This is truly a intimate, gorgeous wedding that I’m sharing today.  The bride & groom chose to celebrate the day with just one another and I have to say that is turned out simply beautiful. I had the pleasure of working with the talented team from Lisa Vorce’s company Oh How Charming & of course Aaron Deleise captured these beautiful images.  Here are Lisa’s words…

When Aaron called me to tell me about Brian and Carey’s “wedding for two”, I was delighted! Planning and designing private weddings has become a bit of an obsession for us. Nothing more romantic than a private celebration for two! A little bit different than elopements in that these private celebrations have all the core components of a wedding (i.e. cake cutting, etc) — only difference is there are no guests! So intimate, so special, so incredible.

You can check out their whole post & even a breath-taking video on Style Me Pretty!

Sophie’s Ice Cream Party

Thursday, November 11th, 2010

This party was surely one of my favorites of the year!  My good friend Lynda Ly, from Grand Soirees, always puts on flawless events and I knew her daughter’s first birthday party would be no less.  She came up with the ice cream cone theme and I immediately LOVED it!  I had so much fun creating the dessert table for this party and have to thank Sarah K. Chen Photography & Trista Lerit Photography for the gorgeous images.  I also snuck in a couple photos I took because I couldn’t help myself from taking tons of photos once I was done.

I wanted the birthday girl’s cake to mimic her dress and then I thought it would be fun to put a fondant ice cream cone right on top, as if it was floating above the cake.  We had tons of fun making ice cream cone cake lollipops, sugar cookies, cupcakes, and french macaron lollipops!

Sweet & Saucy Shop on TLC’s Fabulous Cakes

Monday, August 9th, 2010

So hopefully by now all of you have had a chance to see our Fabulous Cakes episode on TLC!  It was such a great experience and I feel really blessed to have been asked to do it.  To tell you the truth it was a last minute whirlwind experience that I basically only had 2 days to plan for.  I had been in contacts with TLC for a while about me pitching a wedding for the show and each time it fell through and then 2 days before Kristin & Michael’s wedding they confirmed everything and I said yes!  We had cameras in our studio for 3 days straight and let me tell you that is quite an experience.  I had no clue what they would use and how they would edit me and my shop, but overall I was really happy with how it turned out!

0099

It was such a pleasure to work on Kristin & Michael’s wedding and I could not of asked for a better couple for this show.  I was actually already booked for their wedding when I was approached for the show and when they said they were up for it too I was so happy.  We basically made their cake bigger & better than we had planned it to be and even threw in a groom’s cake (which I will talk about later).

This wedding definitely wouldn’t have been the same without the incredibly talented and sweet Angel Swanson of Events of Love & Splendor who did the wedding planning & design!  She made my job so easy!

Once I met with Kristin I was so inspired by her and her creativity.  She designed and made the invitations herself and I have to say they are some of the most gorgeous ones I have seen.  She pulled such inspiration from the location of Rancho Las Lomas and really wanted to pull in the spanish tiles that they had there, spanish style lace, and of course her grandmother’s vintage buttons (if you watched the show)!

0004

0083

0084

We made silicone molds of her grandmother’s buttons, handpainted the tile design on the cake, took the tile pattern and used it for a depression & impression on the cake, made a giant sugar flower anenome flower since that was her favorite and finally lined the cake with spanish lace.  This cake was certainly one of my most daring designs that pushed the envelope, but I was truly proud of it once it all came together.  I LOVED how Michael captured their reaction when they first saw their wedding cake!

0110

0111

Of course we also had do to a full on dessert bar for them as well!  Angel did a fabulous backdrop for us that really made it all pop!  We made custom sugar cookies with Kristin’s printed designs, cake lollipops, mini cupcakes, mini key lime pies, and chocolate chunk cookies

One interesting aspect of the wedding and show is that I was actually asked to make a second cake that would be featured as well, so Kristin wanted to surprise Mike with a groom’s cake.  Kristin and Mike love their dog Baxter like a child and he was even a part of their wedding party.  Kristin thought Mike would flip if I made a 3D dog for him and so that was my mission. There was actually quite a lot of drama that occurred with me making Baxter (which would’ve made for great TV), but I guess they ran out of time for the episode so that is why he didn’t make it on the show.  Nonetheless here is the cute little guy!

Again I loved seeing their reaction!

Thanks so much to my incredible team at the shop…we all know I could never do anything with you!  A special thanks to my mom who keeps me sane, encourages me daily, gives me the best advice a girl could ask for, and is the most amazing business partner ever!
