Utterly Engaged Hoedown!

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

Last month I had the pleasure of doing the dessert bar for Utterly Engaged’s 1 Year Anniversary Hoedown Party!  I had such a great time collaborating on the design and look for the table & overall I think it turned out pretty fun!  Lucia had the idea for the hanging ropes that was inspired from the Ace Hotel set up and instantly I was in love with it!  I also had the great pleasure of working with Summer from Grey Likes Weddings!  She made the whole backdrop come to life & even made me an adorable cake topper!  If you haven’t checked out her fantastic blog definitely stop by!  The lovely florals were done by Megan from Honey & Poppies…as always she created such gorgeous arrangements that complimented the table design so well! Jessica Claire was the main photographer for the party & you can check out all of her fabulous images in the current issue of Utterly Engaged!  Thanks so much Jessica!  Since this was an industry event I was lucky enough to have tons of photographers send me their photos as well so I wanted to post them as well. Check out the links at the bottom for their photography blogs!

Since I got to make the whole menu up myself I wanted to try a lot of new desserts. For the main cake I frosted it with meringue style frosting and torched it so it came out like a toasted smore’s!  The two side cakes were chocolate hazelnut nutella…yummy!

For the treats we made mini smore’s tarts, carrot cake whoopie pies, caramel nut brownies, blueberry crumble pies, my grandma’s caramel nut mix, & chocolate covered rice krispy treats!

Of course I have to give a shout out to the Mustache Mafia since they took home the gold in the BBQ challenge!

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

I had the pleasure of being a part of Brandon Kidd & his now lovely wife Kristin’s wedding!  I bet many of you have seen these images all over the web because their wedding truly was one of a kind.  They had an amazing team of vendors and of course the lovely Jasmine Star shot the gorgeous photos & you can check out her blog to see all of them!  Green Wedding Shoes also featured the fabulous wedding!

Lauryl Lane used raw cotton & lots of organic woodsy style florals & I truly loved them!  And Eva from Red Velvet Occasions planned the whole day flawlessly!

Cookies & Cakes Galore!

Monday, February 16th, 2009

I hope all of you had a wonderful Valentine’s Day!  My hubby was very sweet and did all of my dishes, cleaned the house, and took me to a wonderful lunch.  He also took me shopping and then we topped off the night celebrating with friends eating sushi and bowling the night away!

As I was thinking of what to blog about next I looked through all of my photos and realized that I had tons of random photos that I wanted to share with all of you.  So here is a random assortment of goodies that I have done recently…some from Valentine’s Day and other from recent weddings and birthdays.  Hope you enjoy them!

Here are the rest of the Valentine’s Cookies:

Here is a recent castle birthday cake that I did for a little girl’s 4th birthday party!

These are some photos of recent wedding cakes…

Thanks so much for stopping by!  I really appreciate all of your kind words!

Recent Wedding & Birthday Cakes

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

Thanks again for all of your kind comments!  I absolutely loved reading them and they truly brighten my day! I have been doing a couple cakes here and there and wanted to wait and post them all at the same time.  So hopefully you enjoy the photos and possibly even get some ideas for cakes you want to make at home.  The first cake is a wedding cake I did this past weekend.  The couple wanted a Tiffany Blue Square Cake with an Asian feel.  They wanted small twisting branches and white dogwood flowers.  I was quite happy with how this cake turned out and thankfully it had no glitches along the way and was quite fun to make.

The branches were made out of modeling chocolate and the dogwood flowers were handmade with a mixture of gumpaste and fondant.  I glued the flowers onto the cake with white coating chocolate that sets up quickly and piped brown royal icing in the middle of the flowers for the center.

This next cake was one that I made a while back for a two year olds birthday party.  The theme was Mickey Mouse Club House.  Sadly I forgot to take a photo of the final completed cake and I have never received a photo from the family, but I thought that I might as well post some photos of parts of the cake.  This cake was quite a challenge and very technical to make.  It was basically a full sheet cake that had different parts of Mickey Mouse’s Clubhouse on it.  Overall it turned out good, but was a headache to make.

This last cake was one that I made for my mother-in-law.  She was throwing a party for a friend’s birthday and needed a cake, so she said I could experiment with one.  I tried a new recipe of a chocolate cake with chocolate salted caramel ganache and salted caramel sauce…it was quite tasty, but hard to work with.  For this cake though I wanted to play around with using printed edible frosting sheets, so I scanned in one of my favorite scrapbooking papers and then printed it out on the frosting sheets.  I then wrapped them around the cake and piped a green royal icing border.  Then I added the plain white fondant top cake and added a sugar flower to it.  It was quite a tricky cake, but I learned a lot and now want to experiment even more with this technique.

Hope you enjoyed the photos…thanks so much for taking a look!
