Sweet Stuff Wedding with Jesi Haack Designs

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011

My friend Jesi Haack is quite the wedding designer and this next wedding shows just that!  She can take two people and really pull parts of them into the actual wedding design, so their big day is all about them and their loves!  This wedding is all about fun, frilly, and a little crazy too!  Mark Brooke Photography took the amazing photos!

Jesi made a fun backdrop for our dessert table!  The bride wanted a mini wedding cake with their sketch on it and then two side cakes, one for bride & one of the groom!

French Inspired Photo Shoot

Wednesday, September 15th, 2010

I recently had the pleasure of working with Joy de Vivre, Florette Designs, & Michael & Anna Costa on a French inspired photo shoot that was featured on Style Me Pretty!  I was blown away when I saw the gorgeous photos and really loved how it all turned out!  It was great working with such talented vendors & I thought they did an amazing job.

For the wedding cake I was really inspired by a wedding dress that was completely covered in white lace & doilies with an underlying color.  I knew someday I wanted to recreate it in cake and this was the perfect opportunity.  We covered the base of the cake in a light peach color and then tediously cut out individual fondant lace pieces that were added to the cake.  It was definitely a labor of love, but I have to say I loved the finish product.

Photoshoot!!!

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

Last week I had the pleasure of being featured on Green Wedding Shoes and Snippet & Ink!!!  A couple months ago I was asked by the fabulous Carissa, of JL Designs to do a photoshoot!  I was so excited when she said that Jasmine Star would be shooting the photos and I was so happy with how everything turned out!

The first look was an eco-chic tablescape.  Carissa had such great ideas for this table and the end product turned out amazing! For the cakes I chose to go with three smaller size cakes instead of one large cake.  I love this look and hope to do this for more upcoming weddings!   I used fresh flowers for these cakes and combined different size cake tiers to get a modern look.  To get more details on the table design visit Carissa & Jasmine’s blog on the links above.

The second shoot of the day was a French Farmhouse look!  I love all of Carissa’s eclectic pieces for this table, such as the hens and pitchers of artichokes.  Wildflower linens really supplied us with some gorgeous linens for the table too!

For the cake I decided to go with a white-on-white look and I put subtle details on each tier of the cake.  I added intricate lace and sugar buttons to the cake and accented it with a gorgeous sugar gardena.

Sarah & Cezanne’s Wedding

Friday, July 24th, 2009

I have been waiting for a while to post this uber-fun wedding!  I knew when I first met the couple that this was going to be very creative and beautiful wedding!  They had such fabulous ideas and weren’t scared of putting in the extra time to pull off a one-of-a-kind dessert display.  Not only were they super creative, but their wedding planner and my personal friend, Jesi Haack of Jesi Haack Weddings, is one of those people who is SO talented and loves pulling off gorgeous, yet unique events!  Thanks so much to my other friend, Adrianne Bonafede, who is a great photographer and came along with me to help capture a lot of these yummy images.  Their wedding photographer, Juan Posada, of Posada Photo shot some lovely images too and was kind enough to share them with me!

On a side note I wanted to say “THANK YOU” to all my blog readers because this past week I passed the 1,000,000 view mark!!! I could’ve never imagined having that many views on my site…when my husband first suggested I start writing a blog I thought he was crazy…I remember saying to him “Who would want to read what I write and look at my silly little photos!”  BUT I guess I was mistaken, and I have to say thanks for proving me wrong!  This has been so much fun and I absolutely love getting to connect with people all over the world through this silly little blog!

Here is a little behind the scenes info about the wedding via Jesi Haack’s blog…

“This clean, modern, design inspired wedding showcased Sarah and Cezanne’s love for ultra-hip designer, Jonathan Adler and The Parker, a chic resort in Palm Springs. From the custom designed monogram, courtesy of the groom, to the fruity, Creamsicle signature cocktails, it was impossible for their guests not to feel drenched in chic exuberance.  Each reception table claimed the name of one of the couples’ favorite mid century designers and the fortune cookie favors illustrated the story of their engagement.  Everywhere they looked the guests were refreshed with an eyeful of buttercream yellow, tangerine orange and lime green detail.  The tantalizingly tempting dessert display had every taste bud in the room screaming for a mini-cake lollipop, or a mouthful of cotton candy.  Paired with the newly renovated, modern decor of The Belamar Hotel in Manhattan Beach, it was a dynamic display that could not be matched.  Maybe not even by The Parker itself :)

Sarah & Cezanne both wanted their guests to enjoy an array of tasty mini desserts as well as having a custom wedding cake that incorporated the pattern they created which was seen throughout their wedding.  We used edible frosting sheets to print the pattern on the cake as well as on the sugar cookies and then created handmade sugar orchids to surround the top tier of the cake. I have to say that my sister outdid herself with these flowers…they are gorgeous!

For the mini desserts we decided to pull the yellow and orange color scheme throughout the look by adding cute candy to the cupcakes and using liners that matched too!

We then dipped the chocolate cake pops and pretzels in matching chocolate as well.

And last, but not least the glorious little mini key lime pies, passion fruit, coconut, macadamia nut tarts, and monogram cookies…aren’t they cute!

Cake Tutorial…Plus Extra Designs!

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

I am writing today a very excited person because all of my equipment has finally arrived for the dessert studio!  We are in the final stage of everything and hope to open by the end of the month!!!  I even got to meet with some clients in my new office this past weekend…it was SO much better than meeting up in a coffee shop! I will definitely be taking some more photos of the studio and post them up soon, but for now I wanted to share a fun cake decorating technique with you!  I originally saw this design on another cake and loved the look of it, so I thought I would try it out.  I came up with this easy method to get the lines even…I mean it has probably been done before, but I never saw a tutorial on it, so here it is for your viewing pleasure!

IMG_0816.JPG

First I recommend either using royal icing or swiss/italian meringue buttercream for this…I used swiss meringue buttercream. The first step is to get your cake a nice smooth finish and chill it slightly.  Then use a circle cookie cutter to make a mark in the center of the cake and repeat until the whole row is done. Continue making rows until the tier is covered.   You can pick any size circle you want, but I think I did around 1″. Then pipe along the circles.  Chilling for 10-15 min after this point will help with the rest of the marking, so that the buttercream circles won’t be pulled off.

IMG_0803.JPG

IMG_0805.JPG

Then take the circle cutter and mark it in the center of the intersecting cirlces…see photo below!  As you can see my circles aren’t perfect, but when you are done with the pattern you can’t tell at all!

IMG_0806.JPG

Then pipe the next circles and pipe dots where the lines intersect.

IMG_0808.JPG

IMG_0812.JPG

For this cake I simply decorated it will a small bouquet of white tulips and put it on a cute stand!

IMG_0820.JPG

Hope this tutorial helps you to try this new technique!  I also wanted to share some other orders that I have done recently.  To start is the mini cupcakes, cake lollipops, and lingerie cookies that I did for Playboy Playmate Kendra Wilkinson’s Spa Party in LA.  I wish I had more photos of the event, but here are a couple Louisa took for me!  Nicole from Cobalt Events did a great job with all of their pre-wedding and wedding details!

Best wishes to Kendra and her new hubby, Hank Baskett!  This next cake was for a client who wanted to incorporate her friend’s fish tattoo and love of margaritas into one fun cake for her birthday.  We also make cookies to go with it.  We actually had real margarita glass on top of the cake with edible liquid gel and a lime, but sadly it didn’t fit in the photo.

Lastly I had the pleasure of doing a cake for a friend of mine’s recent wedding!  She was a stunning bride and just wanted a simply cake that matched her invitations and love of daisies!  Sara created this gorgeous sugar flower daisy and it was the perfect addition to the cake!

San Diego Photo Shoot

Monday, June 29th, 2009

Hope everyone had a fabulous weekend!  Too much work left me blogless for the week, but I’m back to share a lot of fun photos with you.  Over the last few months I have had some amazing experiences with so many talented vendors in the wedding industry and I am so happy to share them with you!  This photo shoot was for a top San Diego wedding magazine and I was privileged enough to work with LaVonne from Adorations, who did all the floral designs, Rebecca Gaffney & Mia Saling from Red Letter Days, who designed the second shoot, Kelly Aull from Mint Weddings, was the event coordinator of the hawaiian themed shoot, and Karrie & Elizabeth from Posh Paperie who did the menus & notecards.

The first tablescape was a hawaiian theme and I think it turned out lovely!  I decided to to mini cakes for the table and we wanted to match the invitations with the dessert so we printed the pattern on edible frosting sheets.  We then covered the mini cakes in fondant and wrapped the cake with the frosting sheets.  We piped mini white royal icing dots, added a yellow circle of fondant on top, and finished if off with yellow sugar plumerias.  LaVonne came up with the great idea to place the mini cakes in a gorgeous peony…love, love, loved it!  Everyone really came together and created a beautiful look!

Now onto the Spanish Flamenco shoot!  For this shoot we decided to do a black and white cake with red accents.  Sara made a gorgeous sugar red rose and then we made sugar pearls and jewels.  The tablescape was simply amazing and was larger than life! Posh Paperie did fabulous job with the menu cards too!
