Recent Cakes from Sweet & Saucy Shop

Tuesday, February 8th, 2011

I’m still trying to catch up on blog posting some cakes that we had the pleasure of making last year!  I have been so blessed to have such an amazing team behind me this past year and am excited as we go into this next year full of new couples, new cakes, and lots of fun times!

First up is a cake that I was so excited to work on!  This cake definitely has the most sugar flowers we’ve ever done before and I loved it.  We wanted it to be romantic and elegant and I think we did it!

This next cake was a challenge that I was up to.  The bride worked for the Girl Scout Company and wanted to implement the cookies onto the main wedding cake and 4 small side cakes as well.  I painted the cookies with edible gold paint and then added some chocolate jewels & bottoms too.  I really was thrilled with how it all turned out!

This black and white cake below is one that Kyong and I dreamed up.  I love having Kyong hand paint on our cakes so we came up with a look that we liked and let her go to town.  We accented it with a huge white sugar rose on top and it was finished!

Not all cakes are elegant & girlie, this next cake is full of modern fun with a whimsical flair.  We used hand cut fondant pieces and then painted on the cake as well.  The shape is unique too because instead of traditional rounds the bride wanted hexagon shapes.

Next up we did a traditional elegant wedding cake with a vintage twist.  We did brush embroidery on two of the tiers, mimicked the brides jeweled band on her wedding dress for one tier, and then lastly added a single blush pink garden rose to the bottom tier.

I love the look of bright colors, textures, and multiple cakes when done in the right way and I think we managed to pull it off with this next wedding.  Thanks to Jasmine Star for the photo below!

And lastly, normally draping isn’t my look, but I really did like this traditional style cake that we created.  I think the monochromatic look of it makes it look a little modern, but still very elegant and traditional.

Modern Photo Shoot

Thursday, November 18th, 2010

I absolutely love getting to do photo shoots with talented people and this shoot was definitely one of them!  I teamed up with my dear friends Courtney, from Joyful Weddings & Events, Carissa, from JL Designs, and Elizabeth & Karrie, from Posh Paperie for this amazing opportunity!  The fabulous wedding photographer, Jessica Claire, asked us to do a mock wedding set up for one of her photo workshops and I have to say that I think we went to town!  I absolutely love this modern, bold look for a wedding!  I thought it would be fun to start out with dessert photos for a chance, so here they are!

Tori & Dean’s Renewal Vows

Thursday, November 4th, 2010

This has definitely been a post I have dreamed of doing!  As most of your know I was lucky enough to be a part of Tori & Dean’s renewal vows a couple months ago.  It was such a pleasure to be part of their amazing team of talented vendors.  Tori always has such great style and her vision for her special day really came into its own.  I loved the personal and eclectic touches throughout party and of course the color scheme is one of my favorites.  Thanks so much to Elizabeth Messina for the gorgeous photos…she truly blows me away every time I see her work.

Featured in US Weekly Magazine!!!

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

Well, as most of you know that weekend was quite busy and stressful for us at the shop.  We had 11 weddings and over 18 cakes total with specialty cakes added on….it was quite an eventful weekend to say the least.  One very exciting part of last weekend though was that we got the opportunity to make the wedding cake for David Annable, from Brothers & Sisters, & Odette Yustman who is starring in the new film “You Again” and their gorgeous wedding was featured in US Weekly Magazine!!! Of course they had the amazing Rebecca from Duet Wedding plan & design their beautiful wedding day…we absolutely LOVE working with her!  Well without further ado here is the gorgeous couple and their cake!

For their wedding cake we wanted to make it really romantic with lots of delicate lace surrounding each tier and then accented the top of the cake with a gorgeous sugar flower!  I love the moss green center of the flower and that it has just the slightest hint of pink as well!  This cake was so pretty is person!

Lots of Eye Candy!

Sunday, October 3rd, 2010

Now that summer has officially ended I thought I would have time to breathe and the amount of weddings each weekend would slow down, turns out that October is one of our busiest months ever!  The last couple months we have had the pleasure of making so many wedding cakes for amazing people and I am truly blessed to look back on this summer and see what we did!  Here are some photos of recent cakes we have done…enjoy!

First up, one of my favorites!  We got to explore the Wedge Wood style for this cake and I really loved how it turned out!  We searched hi and low for real pieces that we could make custom molds out of and I love the detail that each mold brought to the cake.

This cake we did a whimsy style white flower with a black center and then did hand painting on the cake that matched the invitations for the wedding.

Here is a fun peak at the whole set up from the fabulous Amelia Lyon!

I also got the chance to make a cake for my dear friend Nancy’s daughter.  I went to pastry school with Nancy and we have kept in touch over the years, so it was quite an honor to have her ask me to make her daughter’s wedding cake!

This bridal shower cake the client wanted it to be fun & girly, so we did white crystal sugar all over the white fondant cake and then accented it with a fushia sugar flower, black fondant ruffle, and three black brooches.

This wedding cake below is very sweet and taylored looking.  Sugar bows, brooches, and quilting…oh my!

This next cake was for a small Indian style wedding we recently did.  I loved the pattern and colors that we used on this cake!

When writing this post I can see that we have made a LOT of fushia sugar flowers lately!  Although a lot of the cakes have similar flowers, the overall design is completely different.  This cake had brown ribbons, damask, white chocolate jewels & brooches.

This next cake was on the simple side.  The main accent piece we made was designed after the bride’s dress.  She had white jewels on her dress, but we wanted to pull in the avocado color in her wedding so we did the jewels in that color.

IMG_1676

IMG_1674

Another sweet pink cake we did for a birthday party!  The design was based off of a cake from Confetti Cakes that the client liked…very cute style!

This last design was a very fun one to see come to life.  I loved the gardenia flower and the whimsy style flowers & vines. I made them all out of sugar paste with new molds that we made.  Since grey is one of my favorite colors I loved seeing it on a cake too!
