For the dessert bar we wanted it to be homestyle, but still have a touch of elegance so we went with all cut glass clear stands and even added in some fun domes too!

New Store Front Window Design

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

Well as many of my blog posts start…”I’ve been meaning to post this for forever”!  I am so in love with my new window design that the talented girls over at Proost Event Design & Planning created for me!  You definitely have to check out their fabulous website and blog as they are quite the talented sisters!

I basically gave them free reign on the backdrop and I love the pops of summery colors they pulled together.  The overall design is so fresh and clean looking…definitely my style!  All my clients love it as much as we do and if you are looking to get pieces created for your party or special day definitely check them out!

My front window is so hard to photograph since there is such bad reflection, but hopefully you can see just how gorgeous it is!

I was lucky enough to get these gorgeous handmade paper flowers from my friend Kate!  She made them for her sister’s bridal shower and then I hinted that I wanted some…yay for me!

Cookbook Winner & Wedding Photos

Monday, July 28th, 2008

Well, another crazy week has passed by!  This week I had the largest cookie order that I’ve ever done…500 sugar cookies for a movie premiere!  I was so excited to do this order and everything went great (of course there were some mishaps along they way, but overall it was a success!) More info on that order will be up later this week…I promise I will be blogging more this week so come check back.  But enough about me, I need to talk about you guys and especially the lucky blogger winner who won Sweet & Simply Party Cakes. The winner by a random number drawing was Rebecca from the Lovell Family Farm Website.  So just email me and I will send you off the book.  There will also be another giveaway this week so stay tuned.

Onto the wedding I did two weeks ago!  Like I said in the last post, I catered a wedding for 200 people.  I didn’t do the full meal, but rather the appetizers and the cake…which was definitely enough for me.  The bride and groom’s colors were dark chocolate brown and turquoise.  They wanted a chocolate ganache covered cake with chocolate cake inside and chocolate ganache filling and fresh strawberries…can you say yummy!  They also wanted to cut the cost a little so we did a smaller size wedding cake with two other kinds of sheet cakes.  The other two kinds of cake were almond cake with lemon cream and fresh raspberry filling and lemon cream cheese frosting AND hazelnut cake with raspberry cream cheese frosting with fresh raspberries and raspberry buttercream.  So without further ado here are some photos of the cake.

As for the appetizers, I did Salmon Cakes with Cilantro Lime Dressing, Fruit Kabobs, and a full Cheese and Bread Platter.  I didn’t get that great of photos of the event since I was working the whole time, but here are a couple photos (sadly I didn’t get a single photo of the Salmon Cakes, but believe me when I tell you they were great!).

Well, thanks for taking a look!

Fun with Cakes!

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

Well since my gallery of tiered or wedding cakes isn’t as full as my sugar cookie gallery I decided I better do a couple more cakes over the next few weeks. Since I didn’t have any major event I decided to test out a few designs on a dummy cake (styrofoam cake layers). I wanted to get the most bang for my buck so I decided to cover one cake dummy in white fondant and then try out a few different designs on that one cake. The first two cake looks are quite simple, but I love that look. If you have a really nicely covered cake and a beautiful flower then I feel like you should showcase them. This look is quite simplistic and modern, but for some brides it might be the look they’re looking for. To get the flower to stay in the cake I inserted a skewer up the flower and then lodged the other side of the skewer into the cake dummy. For more simplistic, modern designs check out April Reed. She is by far one of my favorite cake designers and I am in awe of her talent!

So as you can see not too much difference between these two, but I wanted to see which flower and background I liked better with the brown.  Let me know you opinion!

After trying those two simple cake designs I thought I would try a little different design.  I get my background paper from Paper Source or Martha Stewart’s line at Michael’s normally.  Last time I was at Paper Source I fell in love with this background.  It is so funky and fun and it inspired me to make a cake design about it.

I simply rolled out my colored fondant and then impressed it with Clear Stamps by Autumn Leaves.  I also brushed the fondant with luster dust and then cut out the circles with a small circle cutter.  I attached the fondant circles with a little dab of water.

To make the gold swirls simply pipe on dots of royal icing and then adhere the gold dragees.
